A state level project for Ignited Youth, named Vijay Hi Vijay has been completed in October 2011 at Assam University Campus, Silchar, Assam. 66 karyakarta prepared themselves to dynamically manage their gan (group) by attending preparatory shibir "Gana Pramukh Prashikshan Shibir", which was held from 18 Oct to 21 October.

Vijay Hi Vijay Mahashibir was started on 21st afternoon with 482 participants from different parts of Barak Valley and N C Hills and 200 organizing team members including Assam University Staff members.

The shibir schedule start with morning prayers, followed by YogAbhyas. Various distinguish personality from society share their experiance by various Baudhik session and Vijay Kshan which's followed by interactive questions and answers. All the participants like the Games session which has specially selected games for inculcating Team Spirit & Organised Approch, which is followed by active participation of Bhajan Sandhya. These five days mega camps help youth to imbibe Discipline Organised life with effective time managments.

Sat Paul Mittal National Award-2011 to Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari

Vivekananda Kendra, a spiritually oriented service mission with its headquarters at Kanyakumari has been selected for this year's Sat Paul Mittal National Award' for its outstanding services to humanity in the institutional category.

The award Committee of Nehru Siddhant Kender Trust Ludhiana took the decision considering the untiring efforts of Vivekananda Kendra for the suffering mankind.

Award Giving ceremony took place at Ludhiana on 11 November 2011, at 1145 hours. The Honorable Governor of Panjab Shri Shivraj Patil was the Chief Guest and The Award - Check of Rs 2 lakhs, a gold medal and a citation, was handed over to Vice-President of Vivekananda Kendra Mananeeya Balakrishnanji with a great honor. The Governor in his speech remembered the days he participated for the collection of the donation for the construction of Vivekananda Rock Memorial. He also was happy that Vivekananda Kendra is selected for this award for its social contribution all over the country. This programme was organized by Nehru Siddhant Kender Trust in memory of its founder Shri Sat Paul Mittal who worked for the service of the society.

The programme was well attended and it went on for nearly two hours as another local institution working in the medical field also was selected at individual level for the same Award.

Swami Vivekananda's teachings more relevant today

DHARAMSHALA: The teachings of Swami Vivekananda are more relevant today than when he addressed the World Religious Conference on this day in 1893 at Chicago when he gave the call for 'Universal Brotherhood'. Stating this while addressing a gathering of youths and intellectuals on the occasion of 'Universal Brotherhood Day' at the polytechnic here on Sunday, Padma Shri Kheshma Metri said Swami Vivekananda had expressed apprehensions 118 year ago that religious fanaticism was going to drench the earth with blood, which came true when the World Trade Centre was smashed.

The event was organized by Vivekananda Kendra, Kanayakumari, to commemorate the historical speech delivered by Swami Vivekananda at the World Religious Conference on September 11, 1893. Metri stressed that youths should infuse the strength of the teaching of 'Nishkam Karmyoga' as taught by Bhagwat Geeta and should come forward to help the needy and downtrodden, which would help them in their transformation.

Rehka Deva, joint general secretary, Vivekananda Kendra, asked the youth to follow Swami Vivekananda's teachings, which would keep them close to their cultural roots. She described it as most unfortunate that parents were failing to infuse moral values in their children, which had left the present youth astray. She elaborated the mission of the Vivekananda Kendra, focusing on 'man making' and 'nation building'.

Swami Gangeshanand, Acharya from Chinmayanand Mission, Tapovan, in his presidential address stressed on adopting the path of righteousness shown by Swami Vivekananda to have a better tomorrow for India. He stressed on self transformation among the youths to see the dream of Swami Vivekananda of a prosperous India in right perspective come true. Earlier, a 'Bhagwat Geeta gyan yaga' was organized by the Kendra in which 700 verses from 18 chapters were recited and offerings were made after reciting each verse.

The yaghya was a culmination of three year old program 'Ghar Ghar Geeta Gayan' launched by Vivekananda Kendra with the help of Chinmayananda Mission in this part of the valley.

I am really very happy to launch this web portal in view of the historic celebrations of 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda in the year 2013 to 2014. This is in fact the third wave of Swamiji's inspiring impact on Bharatiya Society. It is a very opportune time in the human history to present Swamiji to the young generation of Bharat as well as the whole world. We Hindus have a firm faith that when the Dharma is at its lowest, there is always a divine intervention to restore balance. In the last few decades science and technology is making stupendous progress with giant leaps in all the fields to make human life more comfortable. The communication is so fast and seamless that national or geographical boundaries have virtually become inconsequential. The breakthroughs in the Medical field have made miraculous progress to increase the longitivity of human life. But has all this made any increment in the quality of life? We find that the very existence of our planet is threatened by the all pervading environmental degradation. Global warming is assuming alarming proportions. Yet the competing powers continue the indiscriminate exploitation of nature. Another major threat is posed by the Global terrorism propagated by intolerant ideologies both of religious and secular origins. The menace of materialism and vulgar consumerism have degraded all social values and human life has become devoid of higher dimentions and divine aspiration.

Swami Vivekananda had warned us of all these dangers. He had given us the remedy also. His message of Vedanta as a scientific way of life promoting harmony, cooperation and co-existence has become more relevant today. The whole world is looking expectantly at Bharat, the land of origin of this philosophy for sustaining solutions in these demanding times.

Swami Vivekananda's 150th Birth anniversary presents us an occasion to take the message of Sanatana Dharma to our own people and awaken Bharat to its full potentials to guide the whole world. The youth of Bharat is ready to grasp Swamiji's inspiring thoughts. The young generation of today's Bharat is more confident, vibrant and active. They believe in themselves and are ready to serve the country and the masses. They are ready to come out and sacrifice to make their motherland strong, capable and prosperous to give the whole world its eternal message of sustainable prosperity, peace and benediction.

Swami Vivekananda after his triumphant return from the west travelled across Bharat from Colombo to Almorah giving the clarion call, "Arise, awake, give up all your comforts and serve the motherland." The youth responded splendidly and joined in the freedom struggle. Bharat saw the rise of Hindu nationalism in politics, arts, literature and all the walks of life. Again in 1963, at the time of centenary of Swami Vivekananda the whole nation geared up and celebrated it spontaneously. The nation was beleaguered and lost its confidence due to demoralizing military defeat at the hands of China. Swami Vivekananda's message once again became the strong motivation. The whole nation woke up and stood as one resulting in a massive movement to build the grand Vivekananda Rock memorial at Kanyakumari, the greatest centre of national and international pilgrimmage.

More delicate and dengarous circumstances face the nation after another fifty years. On one hand the youth power is rising, the nation is ready to march in the economic, scientific and technological fields to capture the number one position in the comity of the nations, the global geo-political situation is most conducive for Bharat to take the lead. On the other hand, lack of good governance and unprecedented corruption have weakened the political structure of the country to the lowest level in independent Bharat.

This is the backdrop against which we are ready to launch the celebrations of Swami Vivekananda's 150th Birth Anniversary. This gives us the most suitable opportunity and also the required philosophical content in the form of Swamiji's message to awaken the masses. Let us take Swamiji to all the sections of our society. This is also the opportunity to integrate the "scattered spiritual forces" in Bharat. Let us reach out to all the Hindu service organizations engaged in religious, spiritual or social service of Mother Bharat and appeal to them to join the celebrations. Let Swami Vivekananda's integrating message unite the whole nation and make it realize its potential and responsibility as the guide of the world, Jagat-Guru.

Universal Brotherhood Day Celebration in Arunachal Pradesh's VKVs

The students of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Kuporijo, Upper Subansiri district celebrated Universal Brotherhood day with great enthusiasm on 11th September. It was on this day in 1893 that Swami Vivekananda delivered an epoch making speech in the World Parliament of Religions at Chicago, USA. Other speakers spoke on the superiority of their own religions and sects, but it was Swami Vivekananda who won many hearts when he addressed the audience as “Sisters and Brothers of America” and emphasized on Universal Tolerance. Every year Vivekananda Kendra celebrates 11th September as Universal Brotherhood Day.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, DDSE Obuk Panor, advised the student community to respect their teachers and parents. He added that true education is achieved only when all that is learnt from the school is put to practice in real life. Panor also assured his full support to the school administration in furthering their aim of imparting quality education and all round development of the student community of the area.

The colourful cultural programme performed by the students of the school was witnessed by a large gathering of parents, well wishers and general public. Earlier the principal of the school Sri A. Krishnan welcomed all and also threw light on the achievement of the school.

The Universal Brotherhood Day was celebrated for the first time at VKV Kitpi, Tawang which has completed one month since its informal inauguration on 8th August 2011.

Parliamentary Secretary Tsewang Dhondup attended the function as the Chief Guest. He stressed upon the youths of the district to channelize their energy for positive and constructive approach. He advised the parents for contributing in their own way for innovative education and social responsibilities. He was greatly moved when the tiny little students performed various cultural programmes in front of parents of nearly 115 students. He also donated a PA system and assured all possible help in near future.

Dorjee Norbu, ZPM Tawang appreciated the service provided by the teachers for the students welfare. He opined such institution shall reap excellence in coming years. K.V Dineshan, Principal also spoke on the occassion.

Universal Brotherhood Day was celebrated in VKV Ziro with great enthusiasm.The programme was started by lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Sri D.K.Das , Additional Deputy Commissioner of Lower Subansiri District, Arunachal Pradesh. In the welcome speech, Sri Anand Mohan Mishra, Principal of VKV Ziro, spoke on the importance to work united as ‘TEAM ARUNACHAL’ to eradicate Illiteracy, Poverty, Inequality and Corruption from our beautiful pristine Arunachal Pradesh and contribute all that is possible for its progress and prosperity. It was followed by group song by class VI students. One Apatani song was also sung by class X girls. Sri Gunajit Bharali, Assistant Teacher of VKV Ziro spoke on the importance of the day. In his speech he stressed on the strength of patriotic fervour to make mother India as ‘Jagadguru’. Then followed Apatani dance performance, dramas based on mythological themes and Chicago Speech by Kr. Ligam Halley,class VI. In his speech, Sri D.K.Das , Chief Guest , spoke on the importance of Vedanta Philosophy and its influence in Indian culture. The programme was ended by the vote of thanks given by Sri Rudra Prasad Upadhyaya , Assistant Teacher , followed by Shanti Mantra.

41st Anniversary of Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Universal Brotherhood Day was celebrated in VKV, Kanyakumari on 11th Sep-2011 at 5.30 pm in newly built in door auditorium. The function was inaugurated by Smt. K. Sasikala Chief Educational officer, Nagercoil, by lighting the lamp. Sri. S. Abraham Lingom, Principal, VKV, Kanyakumari welcome the gathering. The entire function was presided over by Sri. Hanumata Rao. Treasurer, VRM & VK.

Chief guest Smt. K. Sasikala, C.E.O. while speaking universal brotherhood and self-confidence was highlighted. Also she gave award, for those who have completed ten years of service. Special guest Smt. T. Viji, Principal N.M.S. college of Education, Nagercoil explained how to face challenges, and sadhana of service. Both the guests were appreciated by Sri. Power from waste: Vivekananda Kendra shows the way

The town Panchayat is today powered by the biogas-generated electricity

Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu is an internationally renowned tourist destination.

Though the town itself houses a modest population of just 12,345 in about 400 households, it generates a huge volume of waste – mainly kitchen waste from various hotels and restaurants.

An NGO from Kanyakumari called Vivekananda Kendra (Vk- nardep) built a solid waste management shed at the town panchayat for collecting and processing the entire waste for feeding into a bio-gas plant.

“The Kendra constructed the biogas plant (of 100 cubic metre volume) — a floating drum like device attached to a designed biogas engines that are in turn connected to specially designed control panels.

Effective disposing

“The solid waste management shed of the Panchayat is today powered by the biogas-generated-electricity.

“Once the plant started functioning, the panchayat disposed a lot of waste in a constructive way using this plant. The hygiene of the surroundings also improved,” says the Kendra secretary G.Vasudeo.

Scientists from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore and officials from Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) visited the project and recommended it for subsidy from the Government.

“Every kilowatt of energy produced through such renewable energy sources is eligible for subsidy. This village panchayat generates about 10 Kilowatts of electricity from its organic kitchen waste thereby becoming eligible for subsidy worth Rs 4 lakh,” says Mr. Vasudeo.

Once a small town or village becomes a popular tourist place, almost the entire livelihood of that place starts depending on its tourism industry.

“Increased waste generation and absence of effective solutions to tackle it affect the health of the people and also hits tourist flow. Sadly, today urban tourist centers as well as cities are becoming a hub of food waste being dumped in the kitchen backyards,” he adds.

Waste generation

A typical major tourist or pilgrimage centre generates 10-35 tonnes of waste per day, higher than the per capita in urban areas.

Such a problem needs to be tackled innovatively both technologically and socially, that too on a war footing.

“Disposing of waste, particularly kitchen waste, poses a big problem everywhere. Often the sight of accumulated garbage heaps at road corners and in open grounds and fields becomes a nuisance for the residents.

“These rubbish heaps become a breeding ground for many infections and are frequented by stray dogs,” he says.

Vicious cycle

Effectively tackling this problem becomes imperative as it remains a vicious cycle. The challenge of converting the waste into wealth at Mamallapuram is a joint effort of a Chennai based NGO, ‘Hand in Hand', which, along with Vivekananda Kendra set up a large Bio-methanation plant from their Natural resources development project.

The Kendra has been doing research and field work in this area for the last 10 years and is credited for developing low volume bio-methanation plants that are suitable for both urban and rural households.

In addition to this the Kendra also developed a bio-gas slurry based agro-inputs package and made the dissemination of this technology more efficient.

Collection

“We started collecting kitchen and vegetable wastes from the town Panchayat and collected more than 550 kg to 600 kg of kitchen wastes for feeding the plant,” adds Mr. Vasudeo.

Thus a unique combination of governmental agencies, voluntary organisations, and sustainable energy technologists made a tourist centre in the present globalised environment more ecologically healthy and economically vibrant.

Rural Development Programme in July 2011

“Sri Rama Jaya Rama” Mantra was chanted during Deepa Pooja, Shivalinga Pooja and daily by our balwadi school children, cultural class students and during monthly meetings by our balwadi teachers and Social Workers. Every month nearly 5, 59,425 times mantras were chanted in 84 localities.
Through 73 Balwadis, 1,821 rural Children were nurtured. In all the Balwadis, Malt along with hygienically prepared highly nutritive lunch with vegetables was served during the day. And in the evening vitamin-rich cereals were provided to the children.
In our Medicare Program, 1,727 patients were examined and treated for various common ailments, through 15 Rural Medical Centers.
Eye camps were conducted at 2 places in which 332 were treated for their eye ailments and 93 were operated for cataract.
In 212 Samskara Vargas, 6,436 students participated. The students were taught about the values of Indian Culture, through games, lectures & lessons. The feelings of oneness were strengthened among participants, through patriotic songs and games.
Under Adopt a Grannie Parent Programme, 11 destitutes and old people were provided with monthly solatiums, in the form of rice, dhal, oil, etc., for their livelihood and 34 persons provided rice only, in five Southern districts of Tamilnadu.
Monthly deepa poojas were organized in 252 village temples in five districts of Southern Tamilnadu, in which 9,517 ladies participated and offered prayers for the welfare of self, family and the society.
Annual refresher course for all the Balwadi teachers was held at Kanyakumari from 30.06.2011 to 03.07.2011. 96 teachers and 10 supervisors participated in the camp. Practical training of making toys, study materials, from locally available materials was taught to the teachers. The teachers also enacted Dramas, dances every day night, which highlighted the patriotism, character building, devotion, spirituality etc. These were taken to the villages through our cultural class students and balwadi children.
On July 04th, SV Samadhi Day and Anna Pooja were held. Shri Mohanlal Patel handed over the rice to Mananeya Nivedita Didi. All Kendra Athikaris including well wishers nearing 700 attended after which lunch was served to all and collected rice was 19014 Kgs. New book “In Conversation with Swami Vivekananda” was released by Mananeya Sri Bhanudasji, General Secretary, and the book Amutha Kudumbam was released by Sri S.K. Subramaniam, Correspondent, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Valliyoor, in this function. The social workers performed cultural programme in the evening on Swamy Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita.
1.The workers in Rural Development Programme participated in the annual refresher course from 05.07.2011 to 08.07.2011 which was attended by 30 workers, 02 life workers and 01 Seva Vrithi. The annual activities of the respective centers were presented through selected songs, street plays, lectures, group discussions, books reading etc., by the workers.
Under Amrita Surabhi Scheme, our Kendra workers collected 586 Kgs of rice from Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi and Ramnad districts.
Through various branch centers and book stalls, literature books were sold for Rs. 54,162/-
Subscriptions for 148 Vivekavani, 2 years one, 3 years one, life 2 and 1 Yuva Bharathi were collected.
80 women are being benefited in 4 Self Help Groups in Kanyakumari district.
Swadhyaya Varga was organised, one at Ramnad and one at Aruppukottai, in which 41 persons participated.
Yoga Varga has being conducted at four places, two each at Ramnad Thoothukudi, and Aruppukottai in which 126 persons attended.
Tailoring units are functioning well in Nellai district with the total attendance of 70.
Shivalinga Poojas were conducted at two places in Kanyakumari District and 105 members participated.
1.1008 Deepa Poojas were conducted in Nainar Kovil, Ramnad district on July 24 where 1040 participated.
1.Parents meeting was conducted at Arumugapatti Balwadi on July 18th in which 20 participated and also Matru Pooja was celebrated on July 31 at Valliyoor in which 85 children, with their parents participated.
Educational aid was given to 3 children in Virudhunagar District.
1.Cultural class Teacher’s Training were held on July 02, at Sankarankoil, where 10 members participated.
1.This month, we have distributed the rice which was collected through Amrit Surabhi and Anna Pooja to Balwadi children, old poor people and also through the following institutions, educational institutions etc., as follows:

Tribal Traditions and Land as Property in Composite Assam:

Consequences of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India

The Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India is a product of the colonial baggage in which the special provisions for “Tribes” were created. “Tribe” per se began as an expression of colonial perception in the political realities of the world. The Constituent Assembly and the Bordoloi Committee carried the colonial burden to “independent” India. The communities which never called themselves ‘‘tribe’’ or ‘’backward’’ came to be identified as ‘‘backward’’ and therefore ‘ill-equipped’ to deal with ‘modern’ developments. Immigration and consequent alienation of tribal land and attempts to prevent such alienation created an overwhelming problem in the Sixth Schedule areas.

Through his lecture, Prof. Apurba K Baruah, Head, Department of Political Science, NEHU, who is also the Academic Director (Hon) ISCARD had stressed that the implications of the Sixth Schedule is serious and far-reaching. It has brought about huge gaps between the ‘elite’ and people at the grassroot level, between ‘tribal tradition and ‘modern’ liberal views.

Stressing on the issue of way of protecting the interests of the tribals and the non-tribals in the matter of land in the same footing which was never been an issue of pre British Assam, Prof. Baruah said that a step must have to be taken for a political and social negotiation towards its final solution in the contemporary times.

In the speech, of moderator Shri Arup Borbora, Senior Advocate, Gauhati High Court said that, in the Sixth Schedule areas the rich are becoming richer and the poor becoming poorer and that is why it is time to examine the workability of the Schedule. He said that unless the average growth of the community takes place, the Sixth Schedule will lose its worth. Moreover, inter-community relationships are also getting frayed in these areas. There is urgent need to instil mutual respect and trust so that the peaceful co-existence and harmony of pre-British times is restored, Shri Borbora said.

Prof DC Baroowa, Director, Research Advisory Council, introduced the guests and informed the gathering about the background to the series on Land Policy.

We are in the midst of the intense preparation of ‘Bharat Jago! Vishwa Jagao!’- 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The focus of the preparations for celebrations is on identifying the youth who would work for the country, to bring all the scattered spiritual forces together by involving all the Hindu organizations in the celebrations, preparation of literature which gives the message of ‘Bharat Jago! Vishwa Jagao!’. The celebration of 11 September in all branches as Universal Brotherhood Day offers us a good opportunity to take ahead these preparations.

The welcome and adoration that was given to the speeches of Swami Vivekananda during the Parliament of Religions at Chicago made it clear that world is in need of the message of Bharat, but Bharat has to awaken to its sense of duty. The Parliament of Religions was organized as the part of the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the European discovery of America by Columbus. The purpose of the Parliament was to proclaim the Christianity as the ‘Only True Religion.’ The exclusive approach considers one’s religion as the only true religion. Once this exclusive approach is adopted then others’ religions are not tolerated. This intolerance impels the followers of exclusive religion to set out on large-scale conversion of others even by fraud and force.

Swami Vivekananda was aware that it is the exclusive approach of these Semitic religions like Christianity and Islam, which was responsible for so much bloodshed and human massacre in the human history. It is this exclusive approach which is the biggest obstacle in the realization of brotherhood of man. It is well-known that Swami Vivekananda addressed the audience as ‘Sisters and Brothers of America’ it had an electrifying effect on them. It was not merely a form of address but behind those words was the great spiritual strength of India, which has always practiced the universal brotherhood in her long history of more than 5000 years. Taking pride in this fact Swami Vivekananda said, "I am proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all religions and all nations of the earth." Hindus could have this universal approach because they never claim that, 'the God I worship is the 'Only True God' But they say that there is ‘only god’. Everything is the expression of that One.

So we do not say that ours is the only true god and others are false gods we say for others gods that ‘it is 'also' the form of God.’ Thus our approach is an inclusive approach, an 'also' approach. The exclusive approach says 'this only' whereas inclusive approach says 'this also'. It is because of this inclusive approach – 'also' approach that the Hindus never went destroying other religious faiths. To usher in Universal Brotherhood it is essential that all religions accept this inclusive –'also' approach.

The Hindus have this ‘also’ approach because they have the vision of Oneness for the whole existence. As Hindus view everything in the existence as the expression of One, all the manifestations are revered, are accepted. There is then respect for the diversity. As everything is expression of the One, the human soul too is not interpreted as the sinner but as immortal, complete wholeness. This is the message that India has to give to the world.

For the first time to that audience which was used to the exclusive claim to religious truth Swami Vivekananda gave the message, “Much has been said of the common ground of religious unity…. But if anyone here hopes that this unity will come by the triumph of any one of the religions and the destruction of others, to him I say, “Brother, yours is an impossible hope” ….If the Parliament of Religions has shown anything to the world it is this: It has proved to the world that holiness, purity, and charity are not the exclusive possessions of any church in the world, and that every system has produced men and women of the most exalted character. In the face of this evidence, if anybody dreams of the exclusive survival of his own religion and the destruction of others, I pity him from the bottom of my heart, and point out to him that upon the banner of every religion will soon be written, in spite of resistance, “Help and not fight” “Assimilation and not Destruction” “ Harmony and Peace and not dissension.”

For the first time to western audience, the message of universal Brotherhood and its proper understanding was given by Swami Vivekananda. Therefore Mananeeya Eknathji wanted this day to be celebrated as Universal Brotherhood Day. Homogenizing the humanity or bringing uniformity in the human society will not usher in Universal Brotherhood but it will only bring further dissentions and destruction. Integrating the various faiths and accepting, as ‘others’ faith also is good for them’ will bring in Universal Brotherhood. Homogenizing brings destruction of the identity and also the traditional values in the society where as the integration keeps the identity of the communities intact but binds them in the bonds of Brotherhood. Therefore on this day the message is also for those who are very exclusive in their approach and are undertaking the conversions by destroying the faiths and culture of various tribal and other communities.

Hindus by their philosophy and practice of inclusive approach are destined to give this message of Universal Brotherhood to the humanity. But in order to do that first Hindus will have to understand this unifying and integrating nature of their Dharma. In the Parliament of Religions Swami Vivekananda also gave us the unifying principles of Hinduism. As put very beautifully by Sister Nivedita, “Of the Swami’s address before the Parliament of Religions, it may be said that when he began to speak it was of “the religious ideas of the Hindus”, but when he ended Hinduism had been created.…These, then were the two mind-floods, two immense rivers of thought, as it were, Eastern and modern, of which the yellow-clad wanderer on the platform of the Parliament of Religions formed for a moment the point of confluence. The formulation of the common bases of Hinduism was the inevitable result of the shock of their contact, in a personality, so impersonal. For it was no experience of his own that rose to the lips of the swami Vivekananda there. He did not even take advantage of the occasion to tell the story of his master. Instead of either of these, it was the religious consciousness of India that spoke through him, the message of his whole people as determined by their whole past.” Thus on the Universal Brotherhood Day we have to study, absorb and highlight the message that Swami Vivekananda gave in the Parliament of Religions. Not just the lecture given on the first day of the parliament, which is very well known, but the main lecture that he gave in the Parliament of Religions - “ The Paper on Hinduism” needs to be studied. It is the study and application of this lecture, which will make us capable of giving the message of Universal Brotherhood Day to the world.

We should see to it that during the program these points also are given stress.

Universal Brotherhood is possible only in an atmosphere of inclusive approach and not by proclaiming that ‘my god alone is true’
Conversion brings dissentions and not brotherhood. Conversion is violence.
The really spiritual is always universal and inclusive. Rejection of others God as false shows ignorance about one’s own god too.

The occasion of the celebration of Universal Brotherhood Day can be used to reach out to interested youth who would want to give their couple of years for the 150th Jayanti celebrations. There can be elocution, essay competitions by the youth / college students on this lecture or life and message of Swami Vivekananda. We should reach out to many youth and a call also should go forth to them.

Throughout the year, through Karyapaddhati, various programmes and campaigns and shibirs, we keep contacting many people. Ours is a 'thought movement' and the thought which we talk to people through our samparka should take roots. Similarly many known organizations, institutions also could be involved in the celebrations as a prelude to the 150th Jayanti celebrations.

स्वामी विवेकानंद यांना युथ आयकॉन समजले जाते. विवेकानंद जयंती देशभर युवा दिवस म्हणून साजरा होतो. दि. २५ आणि २६ ऑगस्ट रोजी मुंबईतील रुईया आणि जोशी बेडेकर महाविद्यालात स्वामी विवेकानंदांच्या तत्त्वज्ञावर राष्ट्रीय परिसंवाद पार पडले. या परिसंवादात युवक युवतींनी मोठ्या प्रमाणात सहभाग नोंदविला.

भारत जसा आहे तसा त्यावर प्रेम करा. भारतातल्या गरीब, दुखी-पिडीतांवर प्रेम करा. प्रत्येक जीव ईश्वराचेच रूप आहे त्यामुळे माणसातल्या ईश्वराची पूजा करणे सर्वश्रेष्ठ पूजा आहे, असा संदेश स्वामी विवेकानंदांनी दिला. तो विचार आज कृतीत आणण्याची गरज आहे असे प्रतिपादन विवेकानंद केंद्राच्या राष्ट्रीय उपाध्यक्ष बी. निवेदिता यांनी केले. येथील मुंबई विद्यापीठ, राम नारायण रुईया महाविद्यालय आणि जोशी बेडेकर महाविद्यालयाच्या संयुक्त विद्यमाने स्वामी विवेकानंदांच्या तत्त्वज्ञानाच्या विविध पैलूंवर दोन दिवशीय राष्ट्रीय परिसंवादाचे आयोजन करण्यात आले होते. परिसंवादाच्या समारोपप्रसंगी निवेदिता बोलत होत्या.

VKV BALIJAN STUDENT EXCEL IN STATE LEVEL SCIENCE SEMINAR

Department of School Education in collaboration with BITM National Council of Science Museums-Kolkata, organized a State level seminar on the theme ‘Chemistry for human welfare-promises and concerns’ at Itanagar today.

Altogether, 14 participants from various schools of the state participated the seminar.

Osunam Pangam of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Balijan was adjudged winner of the State level Science seminar-2011, while, Jamlar Kojam Tungi of Eklavya Model Residential School (VKV), Bana and Sangeeta Das of Intaya Public School, Roing bagged second and third prizes respectively.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, professor H S Yadav, Department of Chemistry, NERIST said: “The topic of Chemistry is universal in nature and is closely linked with every life form and its origin in universe” while highlighting on the importance of chemistry in human life. Giving detailed information on the topic ‘Chemistry for human welfare-promises and concerns’, Professor Yadav wholeheartedly lauded the participants for inculcating scientific temperament. However, he regretted over the lack of Power Point Presentation system during the seminar, which would have added more live to the presentation.

Yadav appealed the education department to impart knowledge on Power Point system to the students so as to make them ready for various national level competitions too. He also expressed concerned over less participations of students of govt school and urged the DSE to make it mandatory for every govt schools to send their representatives.

Director of School Education T Taloh emphasized on judicious use of Science knowledge for the greater interest of the humanity. He also called upon the students to develop scientific temperament to excel in life besides bringing laurels to the State.

Earlier, the participants presented their papers on the topic and highlighted on contributions of chemistry in human lives such as health care, agriculture productions, industries and social activities and also its ill effects because of its over exploitation as well as people’s negligence.

Science Laboratory On Wheels in VKV, Arunachal Pradesh

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas (VKV) Arunachal Pradesh Trust with an initiative of bringing an exposure to science, and to create a scientific bend of mind for the School Children started its voyage in the Schools of capital complex. The project targets the government schools of the state where science lab facilities are not available or meager. The Mobile Science lab is equipped with almost all the advanced facilities of a science and technology lab upto Higher Secondary Level.

The routine of the science lab includes demonstration of prescribed experiments of middle and high school in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and IT. The Lab is equipped with advanced communication facilities like Multimedia Computers, High Resolution LCD Projector and internet.

The schedule of the session 2011-2012 was flagged off on 19th August 2011. The Science lab has already covered seven schools in the capital complex. The venture was well received by the students and teachers of the schools covered, specially the Government schools of Banderdewa, Ganga and Vivek Vihar. The students and teachers of VKV Itanagar & Nirjuli have extended their expertise and experience.

The service of the Science Lab will be extended to the schools outside the capital complex including remote areas.

Krishnamoorthy, Secretary, RDP, Vivekananda Kendra was the Chief Guest. While he was speaking, he explained the Guru Bhakthi of Lord Krishna. Also Krishna asked his mother Devaki a Boon, that His life fully he wants eat food from his mother’s hand. So many Krishna songs were sung by our Vidyalaya Children (Gopikas). 64th Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Inaugurated

The 64^th Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya located in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh is on the move. On 8 August the hopes and aspirations of Tawang district populace got fulfilled when 112 tiny tots in a tidy VKV uniforms with cheerful faces attended Varsharambha. It was quite a pious and jubilant ceremony graced by Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Director of School Education and SP of Tawang.Parents in their traditional attire made the function vibrant. When Vedic and Buddhist chants echoed at Kitpi which is surrounded by the snow clad mountains, it was a blissful experience for one and all. The active participation by Govt. staff, local people, Lamas from Tawang Monastry and ex VKV students made the Varsharambha unique. The school has enough infrastructures and well trained and experienced staff is posted there.

All India Spiritual Retreat was organized at Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari from 8-14 August 2011. In all 162 participants - Sisters-94, Brothers-68 - from 13 states : Assam, West Bengal, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Uttaranchal, Haryana and Punjab participated in this 7 day event.

During the Camp, lectures were delivered on Spirituality, Kendra Prarthana, Upanishads, Happiness Analysis, Bhakti Yoga, Story of Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Vivekananda Kendra movement and activities, Purposeful life and Swami Vivekananda’s Sardh Shati Samaroh.

Daily thought provoking “Manthan” was conducted on thoughts of Swami Vivekananda wherein the participants exhibited their team coordination, analytical and communicating skills.

In all, the Camp was conducted in moderate discipline wherein most of the participants participated with the spirit of learning, sharing and experiencing. Many expressed their desire to contribute in the Vivekananda thought movement and the coming Vivekananda Sardh-Shati Samaroh to best of their present capacities.

Vivekananda Kendra is organizing various programmes for various classes of society like teachers, students, corporate people, families etc.

In this chain, recently on 6th and 7th August, 2011, Vivekananda Kendra’s Rajkot Vibhag organized Gujarat’s first

“Saha-Yoga” workshop for couples under the shelter of mother nature in Shomeshwar Ashram, Munjka Village, Rajkot, wherein 11 couples participated.

On 6th, all participants were welcomed with “Kum-Kum Tilak” by little dolls Kavya (6 years) and Veer (5 years). Sharp at 4.30, workshop started with "Deep Prajvan" by Rajkot Nagar Sanchalak Shri Gajendrabhai Joshi and Susri Vinodiniben Joshi along with chanting of 3 Omkars and Shanti Paath. Thereafter, participants enjoyed games in “Prerana se Punarutthan” and understood the secret of life through lighter moments.

Thereafter, participants again gathered for first Interaction Session “Realizing Oneness” by Shri Jagdish Mehta, Rajkot Vibhag sangathk, wherein participants understood the concept of Oneness and expansion of self-I to whole Universe (Yashti to Samasthti). Thereafter they experienced physical and mental relaxation in Yogic Exercise and Pranayam Satra conducted by Smitaben Vyas and Chandniben Parsania.

First day’s programme concluded with light supper and as a result of first session, all participants were busy with topic of “Oneness” even on dinning table also.

All Vyavastha Karyakartas preferred to take night stay at Ashram.

Next day, Karkartas gathered for morning prayer, Gita Pathan, Yoga and Shramanubhav.

Again, programme started at 9.30 with Yoga session wherein Participants practiced Stitching exercise and Asans followed by lighter moments related to second interaction session “Parenting with Joy” by Divyeshbhai Mehta.

Next session started after lunch in form of lighter moments and thereafter, session III – “ Towards purposeful family” conducted by Shri Jagdish Mehta.

After tea break, meditation session “Bhav-Dhyan” conducted by Riddhiben Mehta wherein all participants traveled in another world. It was amazing experience for them.

Last and 4th session of the workshop – “Kriti Sankalpa” conducted by Susri Shitalben Joshi. She loudly appealed to start new journey of life together and to think about our responsibilities towards the nation.

In their feedback session, all participants express their experiences and they express their will to join future activities of Kendra. It is pertinent to note that Vivekananda Kendra had kept special arrangment for small children of participants in which, Shri Milapbhai played with them and taught them songs, games and all the fun. Participants were really could feel very free due to this unique arrangement. Children enjoyed the company of Shri Milapbhai to that extend that no child was ready to home with his parents.

Free Ayurvedic Medical Camp at Shimla

Vivekananda Kendra, Shimla branch organised a free Ayurvedic medical camp in its premises on 24/7/11 Sunday in collaboration with Arogya Bhrarati, Himachal Pradesh. It was inaugurated by Sri Suresh Bharadwaj, Honorable M.L.A., Shimla (Urban). About 120 persons were present during the inauguration. Sri Bharadwaj told that the ancient systems of medicine are curing many diseases which cannot be cured by modern medicine. After the inauguration, Sri Rajesh Kapoor, a renowned Ayurveda doctor and well known speaker from Solan, Himachal Pradesh, gave a speech on Pancha Gavya.

Dr. Rakesh Pandit, Sanyojak, Arogya Bharati and a team of 10 renowned Ayurveda specialists from Himachal Pradesh treated the patients. The different fields of specialisation are Orthopedics, Surgery, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Nadi Vaidya, Accupressure etc. 258 patients got benefit from this camp. All the patients were given free medicine also.

Medical Camp by VKAJ at Laju

Swasthya Seva Manch (Health Service Forum) of Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti recently conducted a few medical camps in Laju circle of Tirap district. Camps were conducted at Thinsa, Barap, Laju village and Pongkong where 325 patients were treated for various ailments and medicines were distributed. 12 pregnant women were examined during the camps and Iron Folic Acid capsules were given to them and advised them for regular ANC. 6 patients were advised for Sputum test (AFB). The Medical team organized meetings with the youths and asked them to take precautions for any sort of out-breaks during the rainy season.

Medical Camp at Upper Subansiri

Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti recently organized six Medical Camps in some villages of Upper Subansiri district. The mobile medical team with two Doctors and paramedical staffs conducted camps at Sippi, Menga, Lilydong, Maro, Kodak and Bararupuk villages. A total 350 patients were examined for various ailments and medicines were distributed accordingly. Discussions with villagers regarding various water-borne diseases and Malaria etc.was an integral part of the campaign. The team introduced various schemes of health departments to the villagers and urged them to avail those. Rotary International of Dibrugarh, Assam supported Kendra’s medical activities in Upper Subansiri district by providing medicines and financing a vehicle. For this month’s camp Dr.Reddy’s Pharmaceutical, Guwahati, Assam provided some basic medicines.

Vijay Hi Vijay!! A state Level Youth Leadership Development Programme was launched in Odisha. The programmes were held in two Vibhags of Odisha Prant, Vani Vibhag and Bhanja Vibhag.

In Vani Vibhag, Utkal University Vice Chancellor Prof. Prasant Kr. Sahu released the book ‘Vijay Hi Vijay Ra Sankalpa’(Odiaya) in a programme held at Utkal University Campus on 26th July 2011. Pujaneeya Srimat Swami Priyarupananda ji Maharaj was present as Chief speaker and Prof. Pradip Kumar Sarkar was the Guest of Honour for the occasion.

Swami Priyarupananda ji highlighted the role of teachers in National Regeneration, he said, it is the sacred duty of the teacher to mould and inspire students. The spiritual and moral awakening of students should be transformed into National Awakening. Solution of all problems lies in Swami Vivekananda’s message.

Vice Chancellor Prof. P.K. Sahu said there are many types of leaders and Swami Vivekananda was one of the most influencing world spiritual leaders. He guided the world with the message of his Guru Sri. RamaKrishna.

Prof. P.K. Sarkar added, Swami Vivekananda influenced many important persons in the west. Students empowered with his message will be able to make India a world leader. For this student has to build character with family, social and national character.

Similar Programme was held at Brahmapur University on 2nd August 2011 for Bhanja Vibhag. Vice Chancellor Prof. Jayant Kumar Mahapatra was present as Chief Guest and Prof. N.K. Tripathy, Chairman P.G. Council was Guest of honour. Odisha Prant Sangathak Shri. Ravi Naidu ji told about aims and objectives of Vijay Hi Vijay!!.

Porf. J.K. Mahapatra, told about Swami Vivekananda’s inspiring life and his message of national awakening. Rural Development Programme in June

1.“Sri Rama Jaya Rama” Mantra was chanted during Deepa Pooja, Shivalinga Pooja and also daily by our balwadi school children, cultural class students and during monthly meetings by our balwadi teachers and Social Workers. Every month nearly 5, 12,121 times mantras were chanted in 84 localities.

2.Through 74 Balwadis, 1,804 rural Children were nurtured. In all the Balwadis, Malt along with hygienically prepared highly nutritive lunch with vegetables was served during the day. And in the evening vitamin-rich cereals were provided to the children.

3.In our Medicare Program, 1,958 patients were examined and treated for various common ailments, through 20 Rural Medical Centers.

4.Eye camps were conducted at 5 places in which 749 were treated for their eye ailments and 206 were operated for cataract.

5.In 212 Samskara Vargas, 6,635 students participated. The students were taught about the values of Indian Culture, through games, lectures & lessons. The feelings of oneness were strengthened among participants, through patriotic songs and games.

6.Under Adopt A Grannie Parent Programme, 26 destitutes and old people were provided with monthly solatiums, in the form of rice, dhal, oil, etc., for their livelihood and 45 persons provided rice only, in five Southern districts of Tamilnadu

7.Monthly deepa poojas were organized in 243 village temples in five districts of Southern Tamilnadu, in which 8,631 ladies participated and offered prayers for the welfare of self, family and the society.

8.Under Amrita Surabhi Scheme, our Kendra workers collected 588 Kgs of rice from Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Ramnad districts.

9.Through various branch centers and book stalls, literature books were sold for Rs. 22,435/-

10.Subscriptions for 74 Vivekavani, 2 years one, 3 years one, life one and 4 Patrons were collected.

11.80 women are being benefited in 4 Self Help Groups in Kanyakumari district.

12.Swadhyaya Varga was organised, one at Ramnad and one at Aruppukottai, in which 50 persons participated.

13.Yoga Varga has being conducted at three places, one each at Ramnad Thoothukudi, and Aruppukottai in which 73 persons attended.

14.5 tailoring units are functioning well, 4 in Tirunelveli district and 1 in Kanyakumari district with the total attendance of 94.

15.Shivalinga Poojas were conducted at two places in Kanyakumari District and 105 members participated.

16.Durga Pooja was conducted at two places, in Kanyakumari District in which 116 women participated.

17.1008 Deepa Poojas were conducted in Palavanatham on June 12 where 887 participated, at Ambai, on June 19 where 891 participated from more than 75 villages and at Thirupullani on June 26 where 807 participated. On June 12th and 26th ‘Maathar Maanadu’ and procession took place. On June 12th Secretary, RDP, Sri Ayyappan, Sri Sekar from Sankarankoil, Sri Nagasami of Kovilpatti and the Executive Officer of the temple participated. Bhajans and cultural programmes were performed by the local students. On 26th Sri Krishnamoorthiji, Secretary RDP, local well wishers participated in the ‘Maathar Maanadu’. On 19th at Agastheeswarar temple, Ambai, Kendra Vice President Ma, Nivedita didi, full time worker’s who were attending training, there and Sri Krishnamoorthiji, participated. Educational aid was given to students during the function.

18.Anna Pooja was celebrated on June 26 at Aruppukottai in which 1300 kgs of rice was collected.

19.Personality development camps were conducted at Vallankumaranvilai of Kanyakumari district on June 10 & 11 in which 37 participated,

20.Sri Vivekananda’s 150th Birth anniversary committee meeting was held at Valliyoor, Kovilpatti and Aruppukottai in which 74 participated.

21.Educational aid was given on June 11 to the students of Sri Jeyendrar Matriculation School, Surandai. The donor was Sri Murugesabharathi. The students benefitted were Ms Ganeshya (Rs. 4000/-), Mast Muthu Subramaniam (Rs. 4000/-) of Tenkasi and Ms Vasanthi (Rs. 3000/-). Similarly on June 17, educational aid was given to the students at Ambasamudram. The beneficiaries were Ms.Nellai Nayaki and Ms. Sankara Gomathi of Ambai. The donor for this is Sri Sriganesh Nanagopal. Apart from this, through Swami Vivekananda Trust, high schools and college students of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi were benefitted by the Educational Aid - students benefitted were Ms Pitchammal Rs 1000/-, Ms Muthu Selvi Rs. 1000/- and Sudalai Esakki Rs. 1500. Also Educational Aid was distributed from Kovilpatti (Rs. 9,000/-) and Virudhunagar (Rs. 8,000/-)

22.Cultural class Teacher’s Training were held on June 25, at Sankarankoil, where 14 participated.
23.This month, we have distributed the rice which was collected through Amrit Surabhi and Anna Pooja to Balwadi children, old poor people and also through the following institutions, educational institutions etc., as follows:

GURUPURNIMA CELEBRATION REPORT - RAJKOT VIBHAG

As we all know, Gurupurnima is one of the celebration occassion in Vivekananda Kendra. This year, Kendra's Rajkot Nagar and Vibhag celebrated this pious occassion with Karyakartas, their family members, well wishers etc.

In Rajkot Nagar, day was celebrated with Bhajan Sandhya, Power point presentation on Omkar-Sadhana. After both, another power point presentation about Kendra Parichay was displayed and along with it, a brief details about upcoming "Swami Vivekananda's 150th Birth Anniversary" was given to the present persons. About 80 persons attended this programme. Invitees were disbursed after taking "Prasad" of Laddus.

Similarly, Gurupurnima Celebrated in Morbi branch, where the programme was conducted in 4 different colleges, where total 750+ studetns attended the programme. Programmes were comprised with Ma.Niveditadidi's letter, 150th Anniversary details and Sinhnaad project.

In Chotila town also a programme was celebrated wherein 700+ students were present. After completion of the programme, School management requested to Kendra Karyakartas to arrange such and other types of programme in their school regularly.

In Veraval branch, Kendra Karyakartas gathered for celebration of Gurupurnima and Bhajan Sandhya was enchanted by the karyakartas.Shri Vinubhai Trivedi, Gujarat Prant

Sanchalak inspired the Karyakartas with his lecture. Total presence 19.

Vankaner (Sampark Sthan) also celebrated Gurupurnima Programme with Bhajan Sandhya at Gayatri Temple campus. After it, a lecture based on Ma.Niveditadidi's letter was delivered by Shri Naishadbhai Patel (Vibhag Vyavastha Pramukh) and details of further programme was also given. Total 12 persons were present in the programme. After completion of the programme, Temple management requested us to held some programme for the school run by them in the same campus.

16 Alpakalin Sevavrati Karyakartas worked from 9th May 2011 to 19th June 2011 in different parts of Odisha Prant. These karyakartas were those who came in contact through Uttishthata! Jagrata! Yuva Pratiyogita 2010. A 6 days camp training was conducted from 8th May to 14th May 2011 at Gadavarish Mahavidyalaya, Banapur. 18 karyakartas attended the camp. Man. Bhanudasji, Man. Kishorji, Aa. Laxmi Narayanji Aa. Raviji and other Karyakartas guided the participants on the topics like Veera Vrat Dhari Bane!, Story of VRM, Vivekananda Kendra, Vijay Hi Vijay!!, Bharat! Vijayee Rashtra, Ama Odisha Baithak, Sampark, Anushasana aur Dinacharya.

These Karyakartas were in field from 15th May to 15th June 2011. They contacted degree and PG students at 8 nagar sthans like Bhubaneswar, Baripada, Baleswar, Kendujhar, Sambalpur, Banapur, Kusupur, Brahmapur and motivated youth to participate in the Yuva Netrutva Shibir. The students were contacted door to door, tuition centers, computer classes, hostels etc. Baithaks, Personality Development camps were conducted for them.

63 participants and 12 Alpakalin Sevavrati Karyakartas participated in a 3 day Yuva Netrutva Shibir from 16th June to 19th June 2011. The topics like Vande Bharat Mataram, Jadu Sangathit Karya ka, Vijay Hi Vijay!!, Vishva ko jo Chahiye Kya Bharat De sakta hai?, Mahavidyalayeen Samparka were discussed. These Karyakartas took sankalpa to work for Motherland through in Vijay Hi Vijay! Prakalpa.

“Samarth” Shikshak Shibir was conducted from 9th and 10th July 2011 by Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari Surat Branch. The camp venue is Survoday B.ed College, Ghod Dod Road, Surat.

History of Vivekananda Rock Memorial, concept, activities of Vivekananda Kendra were highlighted by Sri.Jagdishbhai Mehta, Rajkot Vibhah Sangathak. In First lecture conducted by Man. Shitaldidi, Gujarat Prant Vyavstha Pramukh. And second lecture conducted by Jagdishbhai and Last lecture conducted by Shitaldidi.

There are 27 B.Ed student participated in this camp. There are 8 karyakartas are present in this camp. There are three section of yoga , three section of prerna se punrusthan and three section of lecture.

“Swananda” at Kanyakumari for IFFCO Senior Executives

“Swananda” – the Yoga Pratiman designed for Executives and professionals – was successfully organized as Executive Retreat at Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari for the Senior Executives of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO). The 26 Key officials from the IFFCO’s five Production units at Gujarat (Kalol and Kandla), Uttar Pradesh ( Phulpur and Aonla) and Orissa (Paradeep) participated in the three day program which was conducted at Gramodaya Park, Viveknandapuram. The Program was inaugurated by Vice President of Vivekananda Kendra Ma. Niveditadidi with Sri A.K. Singh, Senior Executive Director (Tech) IFFCO and Sri Krishnan, State Marketing Manager IFFCO.

Interactive Sessions were held on “Understanding happiness”, "Recognizing Stress”, “Know Thyself” and “Discovering Joy and fulfillment in life” by Ma. Niveditadidi and Ma. Hanumanthraoji - Treasurer of Vivekananda Kendra. Yoga Sessions, Lighter Moments, visit to Vivekananda Rock Memorial were other ingredients of the program. At concluding, the participants resolved to selflessly serve the family, organization, society and the Nation and experience “Oneness” with the Creation wherein lies the Joy and fulfillment of one’s life.

आत्मविश्वास के बल पर ही मिलती मंजिल

विवेकानन्द केन्द्र कन्याकुमारी, शाखा हरदा द्वारा बच्चों के लिए 24 से 26 जून; 2011 तक तीन दिवसीय अनावासीय व्यक्तित्व विकास शिविर का आयोजन किया गया. जिसमें बच्चों को सूर्यनमस्कार, खेल, गीत, बौद्धिक सत्र, मंथन एवं संस्कृत श्लोकों के माध्यम से भारतीय संस्कृति और स्वामी विवेकानन्द के तेजस्वी विचरों से रूबरू कराया गया.
बौद्धिक सत्र के अंतर्गत शिविर के पहले दिन वक्ता के रूप में श्री हेमंत जी टाले (अध्यक्ष, नगरपालिका हरदा) ने बच्चों को ‘मैं से हम’ विषय पर उदबोधन देते हुए कहा कि शारीरिक, मानसिक और बौद्धिक रूप से परिपक्व जागरूक नागरिक ही बेहतर समाज एवं देश की उन्नति में अपनी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभा सकता हैं वहीँ शिविर के दूसरे दिन पुलिस विभाग से श्री संतोष कुमार मिश्रा जी ने बच्चों को बताया की आत्मविश्वास, एकाग्रता और समर्पण भाव से लबरेज बालक शून्य से शिखर तक पहुंच जाते हैं. इसलिए हर परिस्थिति में खुद पर विश्वास रखना चाहिए. आत्मविश्वास के बल पर ही कठिन से कठिन मंजिल को प्राप्त किया जा सकती हैं.
शिविर के अंतिम दिन श्री मयंक जी येवलेकर ने विवेकानन्द केन्द्र कन्याकुमारी द्वारा समाज और राष्ट्र के लिए किए जा रहे हैं मनुष्य निर्माण से राष्ट्र पुनरुथान के कार्य से बच्चों को अवगत कराया और विवेकानन्द केन्द्र द्वारा बच्चों के लिए चलाये संस्कार वर्ग में नियमित रूप से शामिल होकर अपने व्यक्तित्व विकास कर देश का अच्छा नागरिक बनने का आव्हान किया. शिविर के समापन पर शिविर में आए सभी अभिभावकों ने ख़ुशी के साथ अपने बच्चों के साथ विदाई लेते हुए विवेकानन्द केन्द्र हरदा का आभार व्यक्त किया.

आवासीय व्यक्तित्व विकास शिविर

विवेकानन्द केन्द्र कन्याकुमारी शाखा भोपाल द्वारा दिनांक 9 जून से 16 जून तक आवासीय व्यक्त्वि विकास शिविर नवीन कन्या उमा विद्यालय में आयोजित किया गया। इस शिविर में 23 बहनें तथा 46 भाई कुल 69 षिवीरार्थी एवं 25 कार्यकर्ता संचालन में कार्यरत थे।

इस शिविर में 8 से 17 वर्ष आयु के शिविरार्थीं ने उत्साह पूर्वक भाग लिया। शिविर का मुख्य विषय ”राष्ट्र गौरव” था। इस विषय को ध्यान में रखते हुऐ प्रतिदिन अलग - अलग विषय जैसे - देशभक्ति, चरित्र निर्माण, समर्पण, हमारे आदर्श, एवं त्याग। इन विशयों को खेल, गीत, कहानी, नाटक आदि के माध्यम से शिविरार्थीं को महत्व बताया। इस के अलावा प्रतिदिन एक घण्टा कौशल्य वर्ग के अंतर्गत - मिट्टी की मुर्ति, पेपर मेषी, संगीत, रायफल शुटिंग का भी शिविरार्थीं ने प्रशिक्षण लिया।

समापन के अवसर पर शालैय शिक्षा मंत्री अर्चनाजी चिटनिस व शिविरार्थीं के अभिभावक उपस्थित थे। कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षता श्री सुरेन्द्र जी मीत्तल ने की। अर्चनाजी ने स्वामी विवेकानन्द के जीवन की घटनाओं के बारे में शिविरार्थीं से बातचीत की तथा उनको देश-सेवा व समाज-सेवा हेतु प्रेरित किया।

Rural Development Programme in April 2011

With the motto of "Siva Bhave Jiva Seva" Vivekananda Kendra Rural Development program taking various activities. Here are the highlights of Activities in the Month of April.

Through 74 Balwadis, 2,043 rural Children were nurtured. In all the Balwadis, Malt along with hygienically prepared highly nutritive lunch with vegetables was served during the day. And in the evening vitamin-rich cereals were provided to the children.

In our Medicare Program, 6,912 patients were examined and treated for various common ailments, through 15 Rural Medical Centers.

In 230 Samskara Vargas, 6,912 students participated. The students were taught about the values of Indian Culture, through games, lectures & lessons. The feelings of oneness were strengthened among participants, through patriotic songs and games.

Under Adopt A Grannie Parent Programme, 20 destitutes and old people were provided with monthly solatiums, in the form of rice, dhal, oil, etc., for their livelihood and 45 persons provided rice only, in five Southern districts of Tamilnadu.

Deepa Poojas at were organized in 270 village temples in five districts of Southern Tamilnadu, in which 11,366 ladies participated and offered prayers for the welfare of self, family and the society.

Under Amrita Surabhi Scheme, our Kendra workers collected 1,401 Kgs of rice from Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar Districts.

80 women are being benefited in 4 Self Help Groups in Kanyakumari district.

Swadhyaya Varga was organised, one each in Arupukkottai and Ramnad, in which 50 persons participated.

Yoga Varga has being conducted at three places in Thoothukudi, Ramnad and Aruppukottai in which 62 persons attended.

3 tailoring units are functioning well in Valliyoor district and 1 in Kanyakumari district with the total attendance is 93.

Shivalinga Poojas were conducted at two places in Kanyakumari District and 104 members participated.

Durga Pooja was conducted at one place, in Kanyakumari District in which 102 women participated.

Chanting of Sri Rama Jaya Rama Mantra was held during Deepa Pooja, Shivalinga Pooja and also daily by our balwadi school children, cultural class students and during monthly meetings by our balwadi teachers and Social Workers. Every month nearly 5, 01,870 times mantras were chanted in 84 localities.

Swami Vivekanandar pictures were pasted in 80 houses in villages of Aruppukottai District.

Swami Vivekanandar Vizha was celebrated at three places during this month in which 420 people participated.

Gita Jayanthi was celebrated in 7 places & 955 persons attended the function.

Saraswathi didi Memorial Day was observed on the 15th of this month at our Kanyakumari, Valliyoor, Kovilpatti, Ramnad Kendra’s 71 Balwadi schools. PAYASAM & bananas were distributed to the student s of 71 Balawadi schools.

On April 14, 2011, Anna Pooja was conducted at two places in Thoothukudi namely, Sri Kaliamman koil, Karapettai and Ganapathy temple, Chidambaram Nagar. About 4,800 kgs of rice was collected and over 200 devotees graced the occasion. The rice was put as a heap and the idol of Annapoorni was placed on top of it for the puja, where Annapoorni Ashtothram and 11th Chapter of Bhagavath Gita were recited. Smt. Gowri Rajasekar – Kendra well wisher graced the occasion by her presence and also gave a lecture on Pancha Maha Yagnam. She briefed about the family and the importance of its welfare. She also quoted the importance of empathy and benefits that could be reaped.

These two months we have distributed the rice which is collected through Amrit Surabhi and Anna Pooja to Balwadi children, old poor people and also the following institutions, educational institutions etc., as follows:

2. Mouna Gurusamy Madam, Thottiyodu - 200 Kg.

3. Avvai Ashram, Sivasailam - 200 Kg.

6. Jothi Primary School, Kumbikulam - 100 Kg.

7. Balwadi child and Grannies - 5,175 Kg.

Personality development camps were conducted one each in the districts of Valliyoor & Ramnad where 25 and 58 participated, respectively, whereas, a total of seven camps were conducted in the district of Aruppukottai and 313 participated.

पहले दिन का पॉवर पॉइंट प्रेजेंटेशन का सञ्चालन श्री श्यामकांत देशपांडे ने किया -इन्होने ''शिक्षक -कभी न झुकने वाला " सत्र में कहा कि सभी समस्यायों के बावजूद भी जब शिक्षक स्वयं को पहचानते हुए ,परिस्थिति का रचनात्मक प्रत्युत्तर देगा तभी सकारात्मक परिवर्तन आएगा|

दुसरे पॉवर पॉइंट प्रेजेंटेशन- "सारा दायित्व अपने ऊपर लो " का सञ्चालन श्री विनोद यादव ने किया,उन्होंने बताया कि शिक्षक यदि अपने प्रभाव क्षेत्र- कक्षा,विद्यार्थी,अभिभावक एवं सहकर्मियों पर कार्य करे तो उसकी चिंता का क्षेत्र धीरे-धीरे कम होकर प्रभाव क्षेत्र बढ़ने लगेगा और वह परिस्थितियों का निर्माणकर्ता होकर राष्ट्र निर्माता शिक्षक बन सकेगा|

तीनों दिनों की समर्थ कार्यशाला स्वामी विवेकानंद के प्रसिद्ध उद्धरण -"उठो ! जागो !! और लक्ष्य प्राप्ति तक रुको नहीं " पर आधारित रही ,तीसरे दिन के सत्र का सञ्चालन श्री रवि वर्मा ने किया और बताया कि हम शिक्षको ने एकत्व का अनुभव किया है और उसे अपने जीवन में ढालने को तत्पर है,अब इसे परम्परा के रूप में प्रस्थापित करे ताकि इसका लम्बे समय तक परिणाम प्राप्त हो|

इसके अतिरिक्त कार्यशाला में शिक्षको के लिए विशेष यौगिक और सूक्ष्म व्यायाम -प्राणायाम के साथ ही कई सृजनात्मक खेल ,चर्चाएँ,देशभक्ति गीतों का गायन इत्यादि गतिविधियाँ भी कि गई|

V.K. Vidyalayas – Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Re-Orientation Camp - 2011

Teachers Re-Orientation Camp – 2011 was conducted from 25th to 29th May 2011. It was the collective venture of VKV, Kanyakumari, VKV, Vallioor & VKV, Thiruppoor. Among the five days first three days it was held in VKV, Kanyakumari and last two days in VKV, Vallioor.

The camp was inaugurated by Man. Niveditadidi, Vice President VRM & VK. All the five days the teachers were enlightened by Sri. Veluswamyji, by his lecture on Communicative approach – Reading, writing, techniques of teaching, brain storming & role play, class room management, etc.

History of rock memorial, concept, activities of Vivekananda Kendra were high lighted by Sri.G. Krishna Swamyji, Vibhah Sangathak, VK, Tamil Nadu&Kerala. Patriotic spirit was induced by among all the participants by Sarita Didi, by teaching many patriotic songs. All the participants, presented different topics on Incidents of Swami Vivekananda.

During the concluding ceremony Sri. S.K. Subramoniam, Correspondent, VKV, Vallioor, Prof.Balamurugan, T.D.M.N.S. College, Kallikulam & Man. Aparna Didi,All India Vyavastha Pramukh, gave thought provoking speeches and blessed all the participants.

GUJARAT PRANT KARYAKARTA PRASHIKSHAN SHIBIR

After completion of Vibhas Level Karyakarta Prashikshan Shibirs in respective Vibhag of Gujarat, a State Level Karyakarta Prashikshan Shibir concluded recently at Morbi, Dist : Rajkot.

All the Karyakartas and 17 Participants made reporting at Shibir Venue on 14th May, 2011 and after registration procedure, Shibir commenced with Bhajan Sandhya. Thereafter, Vivekananda Kendra’s Gujarat Prant Pramukh Shri Narendrabhai Trivedi inspired the participants for further huge task of 150th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda in his “Bij-Vyakhyan”. After Bhojan, “Prerana se Punarutthan” session brought all the participants closer. After it, Gana-saha Baithaks of participants’ team were conducted.

Next morning, all the Karyakartas and Participants heard a very very powerful sound of “Shankh-Dhwani” as an “Jagaran” (wake up) call at 4.30 am. It was really an amazing experience to wake up with “Shankh-Dhwani” on all 7 days. At sharp 5.15 am, Pratah Smaran (Morning Prayer) held followed by Yoga-Abhyas, Karma Yoga Shloka Bhavarth and Kendra Prarthana Bhavarth. It is important to note that entire Shibir was themed with “Yoga Satra se Yoga Varga tak” (From Yoga Satra to Yoga Varga) and accordingly, all 7 days, participants were trained with all aspects of Yoga like Loosening exercise, Surya Namaskar, Asanas, Pranayam, Sessions on Yoga, Agya Abhyas, Khel Satra, Mantra Chanting Abhyas etc.

Over and above regular Baudhik Satras, participants made well-equipped with informative & interactive sessions under the head of “Naipunya Satra” contaning the subjects like Publication, Projects, Programme (Purva Niyojan-Purna Niyojan-Anuvartan), Patrons, Baithak, Samparka, Nidhi Sankalan, Utsavas etc.

Manthan Satra has its own importance in Vivekananda Kendra’s Shibir. In this Shibir, all the Manthan Satras conducted based on the book “Seva hi Sadhana”.

On the concluding day of the Shibir, all Karyakartas and Participants performed non-stop 108 Surya Namaskar on the bank of River “Machchhu” (2 Km away from Shibir Venue). It was really an extra ordinary scene.

We all know that Morbi city is world famous for manufacturing of Quartz Clocks and one Shri Odhavjibhai Ramjibhai Patel (“ORPAT” in short) is the pioneer in this industries. Today, Shri O.R.Patel (ORPAT)himself is a brand name at world level. This miracle person is a founder person of Vivekananda Kendra’s activities in the city of Morbi since 1989. With this deep bondage, Shri O.R.Patel, inspite of his illness, remained present during whole “Ahuti Satra”. After completion of Shibir, he rewind his golden memories with Kendra.

On 21st May, 2011, Shibir concluded with “Maha-Prasad” and all participants (now transformed into Kendra Karyakartas) departed to their respective home town to join the Maha-Yajna of Man Making-Nation Building with echoes of Shibir geet “Charaiveti…Charaiveti…."

National Yoga Shiksha Shibir 5-19 May, 2011 at Kanyakumari

Since 1976, Vivekananda Kendra is organizing “Yoga Shiksha Shibirs” at Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari for the propagation of Yoga way of life and to help the participants in their spiritual growth. It is also to make the participants aware of the current social situations and the responsibility of every citizen for the constructive contribution for the betterment of the society. .

This year’s first Yoga Shiksha Shibir was organized from 5-19 May and today is its concluding day.

The reporting date of the Shibir was 4th May 2011 wherein most of the participants reported. The Shibir was formally Inaugurated by Adarniya Mamaji on the morning of 5th May 2011.

In all 55 participants, 45 Brothers and 10 sisters, participated from the 13 states of India, namely Assam, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, New Delhi and Bihar. One participant was from Prague, Czechoslovakia.

The Shibir was conducted in Hindi as well as English Languages and some of the sessions were common.

The Participants were organized into 6 groups named after the historical cities of India : Ayodhya, Mathura, Awantia, Haridwar, Kashi and Kanchi.

During the Shibir, Practical Yogabhyas was conducted in the morning and evening where in Asanas, Pranayama, Suryanamaskar, relaxation techniques were taught. Also amongst the shat-kriyas, Jal-neti and Waman Dhauti was practiced.

Lectures were deliverd on Yoga Concept, Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnan Yoga, Bhagavad Gita, Happiness Analysis, Indian Culture, Challenges before Indian Culture, Story of Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Vivekananda Kendra its activities and prayer.

Manthan was done on many a lecture topics and on the book :”Rousing call to the Hindu Nation”.

During the Shibir, Participants visited Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Kanyakumari Temple and Suchindram Temple. Also all went for trekking to Marut Malai mountain. Campus visit was organized for familiarizing the participants with exhibitions in the Campus.

Shram Samskar, Geet Abhyas, Bhajan Sandhya were the other Highlights. Participants unwinded themselves at the Happy Assembly at night wherein participants shared their talents with songs games and thought presentations. The highlight of the Camp was the Drama presentation by the participants on VRM. Films on VRM, VKV and Chanakya were also shown.

In all, the whole camp was held with moderate discipline in a congenial and lively atmosphere.

Health Worker camp at Khonsa, Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR, May 16: Three days Health Worker Training Camp organized at Khonsa, Tirap by Vivekananda Kendra, Arun Jyoti successfully concluded on May 15.

14 youths from Tirap, Changlang and East Siang participated in the residential camp held at Vivekananda Kendra’s Bank Colony centre. Dr.K.Matey (M.O.), Dr.P.Rakshit (S.M.O.), Dr.S.Roy(S.M.O.) Dr.D.Adhikari(M.O. VKAJ)and other paramedical staffs of District Hospital ,Khonsa took the technical sessions and practical sessions.

It is to be mentioned that the mobile medical van of Arun Jyoti with their own Doctor covers 12 villages of Tirap district and conduct regular medical camps and awareness activities.

We are happy to present the report of activities of Vivekananda Kendra Hyderabad for the year 2010 – 11. (April to March)

Kendra has 4 centers in Hyderabad at Ameerpet, Dilsukhnagar, Baghlingampalli and Kachiguda
This year we could organize / conduct more than 200 programmes and classes in which more than 15,000 people participated / got benefitted.

Daily Programmes -

Usually we start the day with Pranayama and Meditation Class of 45 minutes, which sets the Day for us.
Followed by, two sessions of Yogasanas at Ameerpet and one Session at Dilsukhnagar, Immediately followed by Classes on Spoken English etc.
Again in the evening regular Yoga/Pranayama Classes at Ameerpet , Dilsukhnagar andKachiguda are conducted. Followed by personality development /spoken English advanced course at Ameerpet.
A regular, free coaching class for the class ten students is conducted at Dilsukhnagar.

Weekly and Monthly programmes-

Apart from regular programmes we could conduct many weekly/Monthly programmes of Satsang,Bhajans Sandhyas, Free Medical camps, Eye camps, visits to Old age homes and orphanages , Deep Poojas etc. Competitions for school and college students, personality development camps etc were also conducted from time to time.

Occasional Programmes-

All celebrations like National Youth Day, Universal Brotherhood Day, Sadhana Diwas, Gita Jyanti, Shankara Jayanti etc were conducted with full piety and grace.

Rajkot Vibhag undertaken a well organized Karyakarta Prashikshan Shibir from 28th April to 1st May, 2011 at Gayatri Temple, Vankaner, Dist : Rajkot.

This Shibir was started with registration of Students and Vyavastha Karyakartas at 4=30 pm on 28th April and all students divided in various team (Gan) like Gijubhai Badheka Gan, Gargi Gan etc under their respective Team Leader (Gan Pramukh).

On dot at 5=30 pm, Shibir started with pious chanting of 3 Omkars followed by Bhajan Sandhya. After it, preliminary instructions were given to the students and immidiatly after it, first Baudhik Satra on the subject “Rashtra Bhakta Swami Vivekananda” delivered by Rajkot Vibhag Sangathak Shri Jagdish Mehta.

After Bhojan, Students enjoyed the unique session of “Prerana se Punarutthan” – a package of Action Song, Game, Inspiring Story, Anubhav Kathan, Hanuman Chalisa and Atmavlokan. Before going to bed, each team conducted its meeting (Gansaha Baithak) and tried to understand meaning of name given to their team.

Next day, Shibir started with long whistle at 4=30 am followed by Morning Prayer (Pratah Smaran), Yoga Abhyas, Gita Shloka Abhyas (Karmayoga Shloka Samgraha), Brackfast, Shram Anubhav (Shram Sanskar) and students went for fresh-up (Parihar).

At 10 am, first Baudhik session of the day started and after that, a group discussion (Manthan Satra) completed with summing up on the subject. After lunch also students were busy with their Gan Pramukhs and Karyakartas to learn more aspects of Shibir contents.

Second session started with Abhyas satra followed by Baudhik Satra. After these two, participants performed their best in Open field Games. Again they gathered to feel emotional enjoyment in Bhajan Sandhya. Rest schedule was as per previous day.

This whole day schedule repeated on 30th April also. However, apparent positive change in each participants witnessed by all karyakartas. Now, participants were transformed into self-guided persons.

On last day of Shibir i.e. 1st May, participant performed 48 constant Surya Namaskar and did Pranayam also. By maintaining complete silence, participants entered in Main Hall for Samapan Satra and representatives from each Gan shared their experience in shibir and confess that this three days experience made miracle in their lives. No need to say that words coming from their heart brought free flow of tears in eyes of every karyakartas. Thereafter, as symbol to offer self in the feet of Bharat mata, each Participants and Karyakarta offered flowers before Omkar and Shibir Concluded with “Maha Prasad”.

‘Tejas’ Vyaktitva Vikas Shibir

‘Tejas’ Vyaktitva Vikas Shibir was conducted by Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Nagpur Branch from 27th April to 1st May 2011. Prior to this camp, non-residential camps were conducted for 233 children at 6 places where regular samskar vargas are going on. 62 children from different places attended the camp. Though the schedule was little difficult in the beginning, children enjoyed it. Every day they had pratah smaran, yogabhyas, shramasanskar, in-door & out-door games and Bhajan Sndhya. They had sessions in very simple language on Purpose of life, Values of life, Team-Building & My role in Nation Building & also discussed in group on different aspect of these subjects. Creativity sessions were enjoyed by all. They made various greeting cards, flowers and acted in dramas. On given themes they prepared their own scripts acted very nicely. Smt. Madhavitai Santa, a Kendra Karyakarta from Nasik guided them in creativity sessions. In concluding programme Ma. Vishvasji Lapalkar addressed the parents & made them to think about their role in bringing up the future of this country. All the parents, participants & karyakartas participated in Bharat Mata Pujan.

Personality Development Camp, Surat

Surat branch of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari organized thee day residential camp for the students of 4th –10th standard. Altogether 34 students from different school participated & 8 karyakartaes present in this camp. The camp was organized in the picturesque site of “G.G.Zadafiya“ school in Varachha, Surat.

Registration started at 4pm on 29th of April followed by a short round of interactive session followed by Bhajan Sandhya which lasts for almost 45 minutes and supper. Anandamela (Prerna-se-punarutthan) started with introductory games the objectives of whichis to ensure that each of participants know the other participants very well . Not just name alone but also other other information about family members, address etc. Memory games / concentration enhancement games before the lights went off.

The day used to start at 5:15am and with the morning prayers followed by hour and half of Yogasana practice and Gita (Karmayoga slokasamgraha). After breakfast its time to render some service, sweeping cleaning, watering any similar other jobs in group that enhances group dynamism also inculcates habit of self-reliance.

Each lecture session is followed by group discussion on the topic extracted from the lecture itself, while discussing the given points it has been observed that these kind of discussion increases one’s understanding and presentation improves expression. Games are all designed to improve group coordination, team spirit, and understanding. Games are conducted without help of any external aid (no additional materials), its only the field and the players. Different games for building stamina, agility, power are conducted . Bhajan Sandhya fill the air with spiritual fervor , all bhajans are sang in lead and follow pattern to give everyone a sense of participation.

A Three Days residential Personality Development Camp - Vadodara

A Three Days residential Personality Development Camp was organised by Vivekananda Kendra Kanyaumari Branch Vadodara, At IOCL Town Ship Vadodara, from Date 22-4-11 to 24-4-11.

Reporting time was 4.00 PM On 22-4-11. Total no of participant in camp was 57 out which 17 were sthanik Karyakarta, 6 no of participant were from Santrampur and one from Anand.

First lecture was delivered by Shri Vilas ji Bhonde on “ADARSH DINCHARYA ” and inspired participants to look at their current DINCHARYA and develop new “ADARSH DINCHARYA” based on inputs given in lecture ,and in Manthan they discussed the subject and the presented the outcome in PRASTUTI SATRA. An participant wrote and recite a nice poem showing how this camp inspired her for new life based on values.

A Creative workshop on Simple fundamental of science was conducted by Shri Prakash Bhai Joshi. Second Lecture on “SWAMI VIVEKANANDA EK DESHBHAKT” was delivered by Shailendra Bhai. Last day of the camp was dedicated for “SAMSKAR VARG” fisrt Lecture was jointly delivered by Shri Pramod Ji Bhatt and Shri Sangram Bhai on SANSKAR and SANSKAR VARG.

Participants were full of energy while playing “TANK YUDDH” & “MATIRE KI PHANK” in KHEL SATRA, and Story of RANI CHENNAMA and MADAN LAL DHINGRA Also Motivated participants.

Concluding Session or AHUTI SATRA for Participants and their Parents was Delivered by NAYANA BEN TRIVEDI , showing what is character and why it is required in today’s time.

Kirtan Melawa

Kirtan melawa was arranged by Vivekananda Kendra Prashikshan Va seva Prakapla on 23rd and 24th Apr. 2011. The aim was to spread message of Swamiji in all villages up to 2013-14 on 150th birth anniversary of Swamiji. On 23rd Apr 86 kirtankars were present and on 24th 97 Kirtankars were present. Out of these kirtankars 11 were women. There are 2 types of Kirtans one is sampradaik i.e. Varkari kirtan and another is Nardiya kirtan. Some of them perform kirtan in both the ways. There is very much difference in the presentation of both the kirtans. Both kirtankars are usually very much rigid. But at the platform of Vivekananda Kendra it is possible to gather both of them at same time. It is possible because of Swamiji. They love him and both of them tell the stories of Swami Vivekananda in their Kirtans. We also arranged both type of Kirtans. On 23rd there was varkari kirtan on Swamiji presentated by Anantdas Maharaj, Kasabedkar from Malegaon. On 24th there was nardiya kirtan on Swamiji presented by Charudatta Aphale Maharaj Pune. All were very much delighted by both the kirtans. 2 lectures were delivered by Ma. Niveditatai and one by Gavle Maharaj from Nashik. 2 charcha satras were there. One on hardles before India and another on planning after this melawa. All kirtankars participated actively in all programmes. This idea of gather all kirtankars is very much new to them and they enjoyed it.

We gave 5 books to everybody namely Swamiji’s Charitra, Sanchyan, Shaktidayi Vichar, Katha Vivekanandanchya and Ameriketil Swami Vivekananda. A script was also prepared telling thoughts of Swamiji and concerned story in his life and distributed to all kirtankars.

All said that it is a beginning and they will participate it in future actively. Tentative date for next meeting decided is Vadya Ashadhi Ekadashi. 6 kirtankar women from Pune said that they will perform kirtan on various places on Swamiji and will send the report to Prakalpa.

With the grace of Shri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda & Ma Sarda the kirtan melawa was grand success.

Karyapaddathi (Regular Activity):

Yoga Varga: 3 places with 100 people.

Swadhaya Varga: 1 places with 20 people.

Samskara Varga: 4 places with 100 children.

Yoga Satra: 14 yoga satras. 168 people benefited.

Meditation Class: 10 days meditation class organized 28 people attended the class. Every weekend meditation class going on regularly.

Anandalaya - Value based education for Economically backward class : 2 places with 78 children from class 1 to 10th standard

Free Medical Service: 12 camp organized. Nearly 780 people benefited and one operated.

Free Computer class: 54 students got trained. 2 students trained in tally.

Annadhanam: Every Sundays we are organizing Annadhanam. 960 people took part.

Bhajan Class: Anandalaya children performs bhajan in nearby 3 temples every week.

Deepa Pooja: 6 times performed Deepa pooja at Kendra and nearby 2 temples. Nearly 600 people performed pooja. Deepa pooja conducted at 2 slums, nearly 75 ladies attended.

Shiva Pooja: On Shivaratri Day Shiva Pooja performed nearly 180 people performed Pancha Limga Pooja.
Education Aid distributed to 400 students in this year. 7 cycles distributed to needy children.

Utsavas:

Gurupoornima: Gurupoornima utsava celebrated at 2 places.

Universal Brotherhood Day celebrated at 3 places with 700 people. Sri Jagadish Bapat, Professor Amrutha Institute of Technology. Anandalaya children and samskaravarga children performed cultural programmes.

Sadhana Diwas: 19th of November all karyakartas gathered and took their daitwa. 70 karyakartas are attended.

Geeta Jayanthi: celebrated at 3 places. Sri Srinivasaiahji was the main speaker in this event. At Vidyaranyapura center we celebrated Geeta Saptaha.

Samartha Bharata Parva/ Vivekananda Jayanti: 8 places organized vivekananda Jayanthi and Viveka Sandesha – Exibition on Swamiji’s life and message. Nearly 8000 peoples attended the programme. On 12th January, Smt. Sabita Rao. Retd. Professor talked about Samartha Bharat and achievements of bharat in different field.

Other festivals:

Sri Krishna Janmastami, Mahashivaratri festivals celebrated in grand manner.

On Rathasaptami Day, 101 Samuhika suryanamaskar performed by all yoga participated, anandalaya children. 128 people performed suryanamaskar.

Swadhaya Copmetition

At 3 colleges we organized swadhaya examination on the life and message of swami vivekananda. 128 students wrote the examination.

Cultural competition:

On the occasion of U B Day and Samartha Bharata Parva, organized cultural meet at school and college level. Patriotic song, Essay, Quiz, Drawing, Rangoli, Elocution and Drama on incidents from the life of Swami Vivekananda are the main topics in the cultural meet. 980 students from 18 schools and 58 students from 3 colleges participated.

On 18th December, we celebrated Anandalaya Annual Day.

Sports meet: On occasion of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, organized sports meet, 98 students from 9 schools participated in kho-kho match. Annual anandalaya Sports celebrated in the month of December.

Free Bhratanatya class: 18 students learning classical dance.

Mantra for Development is Peace and Security

Rapid development will happen only where there is peace and security said Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh, while inaugurating a two-day national seminar on development and security organized by Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), New Delhi in collaboration with Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture, Arunachal Pradesh here today.In his inaugural address, Gen Singh dwelt in length on development activities in the State. He pictured the State during its inception when there were two schools and few kilometers of road to coming up of four lane road, airports and railway tracks.

But, he cautioned, as Governor of the State, I have to ensure that development is not forced on the people and they become mute spectators. It should in a pace, which they can absorb. I want to see that Arunachalees are the biggest beneficiaries of the development process, he added.

We have come a long way and today stand at par with many developed States of our country. In fact, for 2009-10 the growth rate of the State was more than 22% which was the highest for any State of the country. I see a bright future for Arunachal Pradesh as security has been well address by the nation, he said.

Gen Singh, while acknowledging the immense contributions of the Vivekananda Kendra in the State recalled his close association with organization and VKV Tafragaon in early seventies, when he was a battalion commander in Lohit area.

In his keynote address, Chairman of Vivekananda International Foundation, Admiral KK Nayyar, former Vice Chief of Naval Staff said “development is due to effort of human being and we have to develop our human resources. Development should be inclusive and there should be no place for corruption”.

Stating that increase in life expectancy as indicator of development, he said it is the summarization of development process.

Sharing his ideas on security, former Vice Chief of Naval Staff said, problem of security is more from internal than external. With better education and better information, we can erase internal problems and communal tension and secure our way of life and our culture. Referring stapled visa, claims on Arunachal Pradesh by China, Admiral Nayyar said, we should take note of it, but should not fear.

On the huge hydropower potential of Arunachal Pradesh, Chairman of Vivekananda International Foundation said, size of rehabilitation is not big and therefore central government should facilitate in the speedy implementation.

Former Vice Chief of Naval Staff concluded his speech by stating, ‘For many years people of Arunachal Pradesh have lived up to the our expectation and now it is the time rest of the country rise to the expectation of these people.’

Vice President of all India Vivekananda Kendra A. Balakrishnan said, national security is the responsibility of every citizen and not just armed forces or the police. But it will be taken care if we have right kind of education, he said while informing that Vivekananda Kendra are doing its best in its humble ways to provide right type of education.

Dwelling on background of Vivekananda Kendra in Arunachal Pradesh, Vice President of all India Vivekananda Kendra informed that organization which set its foot in the State in 1974 started providing formal education to children in 1977 with start of seven residential schools in five districts. Today, it has expanded to thirty-three schools spread all over the State from Tirap to Tawang.

In his welcome address, Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture, Arunachal Pradesh Chapter State Coordinator, Dr. Tejum Padu gave an overview of the seminar. Pointing at the recent controversies like stapled visa, claims on Arunachal Pradesh by China and inserting of Arunachal Pradesh in Google maps of China, Dr. Padu said that such seminars was necessary in Arunachal Pradesh.

Earlier Governor released Golden Vine of R Hynniewtrep, the Khasi Heritage by Suman Sing Sawian and Heritage of Kamakhya on the Nilachala Hill, both published by Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture.

Param Prujya Swami Ramdev Baba visits to Vivekananda Rock Memorial & Vivekananda Kendra

The Yoga Guru and head of Patanjali Yoga Vidyapith, Hrishikesh Swami Ramdev Baba arrived Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari in the afternoon on 28 Macrh 2011. He was received with the Pornakumbha by Ma Balakrishnanji, Ma Niveditadidi, Shri Hanumantharaoji and other Kendra karyakartas and after that he visited Vivekananda Rock Memorial (VRM). He was accompanied by Shri Raghunathan and Shri Deepak and was received by Shri Avinashji (all Jeevanvratis of Vivekananda Kendra) on the Vivekananda Rock Memorial.

He was very much delighted after seeing the great monument and when he came to know that Vivekananda Kendra is engaged in Man-Making and Nation Building work all over the country. He said, "When I recently visited Arunachal Pradesh & Assam, I myself had the glimpse of its work in a short duration. This type of work our country needs and you are doing the wonderful work. My best wishes."

In Vivekanandapuram he spoke to all the Poornakaleen and socially to the Shiksharties, who are under going 4 months training at present. He for half an hour and stressed that we should use Swadeshi things so the village economy will increase and it will not allow the MNCs to grow more in number, practice yoga ( specially Kapalbhati & Pranayam) so the health will be good and whatever you do, do with commitment (Nishtha). This itself show us the path for marching forward – Charaiveti, Charaiveti….

In the evening at 1700 hrs there was a public programme in our campus beach as it is held all over the country. 2000 people attended this programme and after the programme he left for Thiruvananthapuram.

Namaskar.

The report for the activities, conducted by VKRDP, during the month of January & February 2011 is detailed below, for your kind information:

1. Through 75 Balwadis, 2,136 rural Children were nurtured. In the Balwadis, Malt, Hygienically prepared highly nutritive lunch were served, with vegetables, and evening, vitamin rich cereals were provided to the children.

2. In Medicare Programme, 4,819 patients were examined and treated for various common ailments, through 15 Rural Medical Centres.

3. In 224 Samskara Vargas, 6,797 students participated. The students were taught about the values of Indian Culture, through games and lessons. The feelings of oneness are strengthened among participants, through patriotic songs and games.

4. Under Sponsor A Grannie Parent Programme, 25 destitutes - old people were provided with monthly solatiums, in the form of rice, dhal, oil, etc., for their livelihood and 44 persons provided rice only.

5. With the assistance of Aravind Eye Hospital, Tirunelveli Free Eye Screening Camps were organised at six places. 1,128 patients were screened and 312 were operated for cataract.

6. Village level Deepa Poojas were organised in 265 temples with 10,940 women participants, who offered their prayers to God for the welfare of all people.

7. Vivekananda Kendra workers and volunteers have collected 2,761 Kgs. of rice, from the people of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar Districts, under Amrita Surabhi Scheme.

8. Through various branch centres and Book stalls, Rs.1,60,358/- worth of literature books were sold.

9. Subscriptions for 209 Vivekavani were registered.

10. 80 women being benefited in 4 Self Help Groups in Kanyakumari district.

11. Swadhyaya Varga was organised in Paramakudi in which 39 persons participated.

12. Yoga Varga is being conducted in three places in Kovilpatti, Ramnad and Aruppukottai and 68 persons attended.

13. Four Tailoring units are functioning in Kanyakumari & Tirunelveli districts and total attendance is 71.

14. Shivalinga Poojas were conducted at two places in Kanyakumari District and 103 members participated.

15. Durga Pooja was conducted in Peyankuzhy of Kanyakumari District and 100 sister participated.

16. Chanting of Sri Rama Jaya Rama Mantra was held during Deepa Pooja, Shivalinga Pooja and also daily by Balwadi School Children, Cultural Class Students and during Monthly Meetings by Balwadi Teachers and Social Workers. Every month nearly 5,28,810 times mantras were chanted in 135 localities.

17. Swami Vivekanandar picture was pasted 70 houses from 2 villages of Virudhunagar District.

18. Swami Vivekanandar Vizha was celebrated in 38 places in which 9,928 people participated.

19. Gita Jayanthi was celebrated in 7 places, 955 persons attended the function.

20. Anna Pooja was celebrated in Ramnada and Rameshwaram, 10,467Kgs. rice was collected from 25 village people, 302 persons were attended this function.

21. VACS+1, +2 certificates distribution function was celebrated at Kovilpatti and Sankarankoil in Thoothukudi district and 166 students were participated from 10 schools.

22. On 30.01.2011, 115th year of Swami Vivekananda's triumphal return from West has been celebrated by Vivekananda Kendra. In that same day a huge procession with Swamiji's picture went along the streets and reached Kumaran Padithurai where Swami Vivekananda gave his Paramakudi lecture . Vivekananda Kendra Ramnad district-in-charge welcomed one and all. The Principal of Nanal Spoken English Centre Shri R. Suresh Kannan thanked everyone.

23. Under VACS Higher Secondary Level the book Narguna Nayagar Swami Vivekananda and Sri Sarada Devi the Divine mother was given to the students (8,375 students from 165 schools + 14 Religious class) after a sufficient period of study during which the teachers help the students in understanding and imbibing the values. 6,855 students written the examination and 5,976 students passed. Two separate residential camps for boys and girls were held as under:

24. VELGA VELGAVEY PROGRAMME :

Swami Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary falls on 12.01.2013. To celebrate the holy day in a fitting manner, the Vivekananda Kendra is taking Swami Vivekananda’s message to millions of young men and women across the country. Already, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Arunachal have given the message to lakhs of college students and have involved thousands of youth is one day camps and five day camps, in this connection.

In 2009 it was decided that the Kendra would celebrate the youth power of Tamil Nadu in 2011. As the first phase, a book was prepared on the life and message of Swami Vivekananda in Tamil. The information of the ‘Velga Velgavey’ programme was taken to 75,000 students in 200 colleges from 13 districts of Tamil Nadu. 35,000 students registered for the programme and 32,000 of them wrote a simple test on the book.

One day leadership training programme was conducted in individual colleges and in some bunches of colleges together. 4,000 students participated in those events involving training in leadership, games, patriotic songs and lectures on organization. They were from 93 colleges. The camp was held from 21.01.2011 evening to 26.01.2011 afternoon under the leadership of our Kendra Vice President Shri Balakrishnanji and Su. B. Nivedita. Indian Space Research Organisation Scientist Shri Sivathanu Pillai has also participated and gave a valid speech. In the concluding day Shri Chidambaram, Principal Scientific advisor to Government of India participated in the concluding day and the function was celebrated in a grand manner. Students from 92 colleges both boys(444) and girls(569) all over the state of Tamil Nadu participated in the camp.

25. Matru Pooja was organized in two places 202 students, parents and public were attended this programme.

26. On 24.01.2011 Parents meeting was conducted at Mangavilai in Kanyakumari District 20 parents were participated.

27. The winners of the district-level competitions were invited to Kanyakumari for the inter-district competitions and the children’s festival was conducted from 17.02.2011 to 20.02.2011, 95 schools 66 students, 132 parents and 18 teachers were participated. In this camp they learnt yoga, bhajans, Indian culture, Swami Vivekananda, Kendra activities and games. Cultural programmes were performed by the carnival students, parents and teachers. The Manager, State Bank of India, Vivekanandapuram was presided over the function and distributed the prizes to the winners.

28. An Essay Competition was conducted for School teachers and College Professors on the theme of "HOW DO THE EVILS OF ALCOHOL, VULGAR TV SHOWS AND FILMS AFFECT INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES? HOW CAN INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND THE SOCIETY COUNTER THEM?". 57 School & College Teachers were participated from 27 schools and colleges. The best essays were awarded with suitable prizes with certificates. The teachers were invited to the Kendra camp. The prize winning essays are being serialized in Kendra’s magazines and periodicals.
29. Every month we are distributing the rice which is collected through Amrit Surabhi and Anna pooja to Balwadi children, old poor people and also the following institutions, educational institutions etc., as follows.

INSPIRING INCIDENTS

1. Ms. MUTHUKAVITHA, ARUMUGAPATTI, TIRUNELVELI DISTRICT ::

The Balasevikas were given a booklet on Kendra (Kalvikoodangalil Panpattu Panigal) work in the field of culture in schools, higher secondary schools, colleges etc.,. The crèche child Ramya’s mother borrowed one day the booklet and brought it back next day. She said the Kendra is doing so much work that we are happy that our child is studying in the Kendra crèche. The crèche is the pride of our village she said.

2. A. MARISELVAM, KARUVANTHA, TIRUNELVELI DISTRICT ::

The cultural class arranged a walking trip a pilgrim centre 6 km. away from this village. Two crèche children Ramya and Selvi wanted to come along. The balasevikas offered to take them in a Van on some other day. But the children would not listen. The balasevika yielded and the two children walked the entire distance of 6 kilometres and visited the temple. The balasevikas revised their opinion about stamina and grit of the children.

Kanagaraj is a child in this crèche. His brother studies in a higher class in a school which charges high rates of tuition fee. Kanagaraj’s father returned from hig foreign job and tested both his sons. The younger Kanagaraj, the crèche child could recite rhymes, proverbs and the alphabets. His elder brother studying a higher class could not match him. The proud father recorded Kanagaraj’s recitations and carried it to his foreign residence. "Every day I listen to my son’s voice intoning healthy chants before I go for my work".

4. V.V.R. NAGAR, RAMNAD DISTRICT::

Priya, a creche child got ready by 7.00 a.m. and insisted that her mother take her to the creche. Her mother had to bold back her enthusiasm as the creche opens only at 9’o clock. Priya’s mother was happy that such a young girl attends creche without crying.

Such an approach leads to diversification of technology. We cannot have the same uniform building technology but different technologies based on the particular region, taking into account the local materials, human conditions, environment and climate as well as local cultures. This month we have conducted a series of workshops on water democracy for children, rural women as well as college students. The green health home has been active. Our medical team consisting of Dr. V.Ganapathi and others have documented the traditional Vaidhyas system of anti-venomn practices. Five bio-methanation plants have been commissioned. Ultimately future belongs to the children. With what value system we bring up our children shall determine the future of the earth. Who is in a better position to realize this than our school teachers? And how well are they aware of the ecological problems that humanity faces and also what solution our cutural heritage and value system offers? Inaguration of 36th - Kendra Shiksha Shibir

The 36th Kendra Shiksha Shibir with 22 Shiksharthis (Life-worker trainees) began today. The Shiksharthis are from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Guajrat, M.P., Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu & U.P. These Shiksharthis have completed their initial two years training with senior karyakartas. It was inaugurated on the auspicious occasion of Holi Poornima, the 19 March 2011 by Mananeeya A. Balakrishnanji, All India Vice- President of Vivekananda Kendra.

The Shiksharties were taken to Vivekananda Rock Memorial early morning before the Sunrise. All had Darshan of the Sripadam of Devi Kanyakumari in Sripad Mandapam. Here Swami Vivekananda had mediated in 1892. All assembled near the Dhwaj Sthambha (flag post) where the Bhagava Dwaj (saffron flag) with the inscription of Omkar on it was hoisted with the Sunrise at 06.25 a.m. This saffron flag is hoisted every day with rising of the sun and lowered at the time of sunset. This tradition continues since the Man-Making mission – Vivekananda Kendra was launched on 7 January 1972.

After Dwaj Pranam it was followed by Kendra Prarthana and the inauguration ceremony was held in Sabha Mandapam. All sat facing Swami Vivekananda to take His blessings. Karmayoga Shloka Sangraha Pathan was done. It was followed by the blessings of Mananeeya Balakrishnanji. He said, ‘You are taking the path which is not that easy but , it can be made easy by the Samarpan and Sadhana. You can draw immense power within you – the Atmashakti through these qualities. As the situation and atmosphere outside is not congenial, this power within you will guide you. Your body and mind should be as strong as a wire through which the electricity is passed and still it withstands. Do hard work and increase the Balam (capacity) from all side – Bahu-balam (Physical), Mano-balam (mental), Buddhi-balam (intellectual) & Atma-balam (spiritual).’

It ended with Kendra Prarthana. All returned after having Dharshan and taking blessings of Devi Kanyakumari at Kanyakumari, Ekakshar Maha Ganapati and Mananeeya Eknathji at Gangotri in Vivekanandapuram

Bhumi Pujan of Regional Centre cum Institute Of Culture & Yoga, Bhubaneswar Branch

The Foundation Stone laying programme for the Regional Centre cum Institute Of culture & Yoga, Bhubaneswar was held on the actual plot on 27th February 2011. The Chief Guest Sri Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, Hon’ble MP (Rajya Sabha), unveiled the foundation stone at the start of the programme in presence of Mananeeya A. Balakrishnanji, the Vice President of Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari and Sri Anant Narayan Jena, Mayor-BMC, the Guest of Honour in the programme. The celebrations started with traditional Bhoomi puja and yagna in the morning.

Mananeeya A. Balakrishnanji, Vice President Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari spoke on the necessity of such Institute where in special studies will be undertaken to identify and strengthen the commonalities amongst the various Janajatis, while strengthening their uniqueness. He also gave a broad overview of the 150th year celebrations of Swamiji and the role of Odisha in Kendra’s future plans. The Chief Guest congratulated Vivekananda Kendra for its efforts to spread Indian Culture and Swami Vivekananda’s message. He suggested that a mass movement of fund collection should be done by Kendra so that even common people may feel a sense of owning, instead of approaching only the Industrialists. Sri Ananta Narayan Jena, BMC-Mayor said the need of such organisations is very important for spreading the message of Swamiji.

An Odiya book titled “Bharateeya Sanskriti”, published by the Vivekananda Kendra was earlier released by the Chief Guest. In the beginning Sri Surasen Jena, welcomed all present in his Welcome address. Smt Lilima Mohapatra, Nagar Pramukh, Vivekananda Kendra proposed the Vote of thanks. Around 150 wellwishers and patrons attended the programme.

Matru Puja at VKV, Kanyakumari

Matru Puja was celebrated on 26th Feb, 2011 at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Kanyakumari. The function started by 1.00 P.M. Approximately 200 mothers participated very actively. Various competitions were conducted. Their participation was very well. General meeting started by 4.00P.M. Dr. Kalai Selvi, MBBS, DGO, was the Chief Guest. and Man. Nivedita didi, Vice President, Vivekananda Kendra was the Special Guest. Both the guest given a valuable speech related with the Mothers and their responsibilities. Winners were appreciated by giving prizes.

A day in the Documentation of Traditional Visha Vaidya Practices

With the help of the Department of AYUSH, New Delhi, VK-nardep has started documentation on “Traditional Visha Vaidya Practices (TVVP)" in Southern parts of Tamilnadu. We (Dr.V. Ganapathy and VK- nardep technicians along with healer Ramachandran Nair and Suresh Kumar) documented indigenous traditions at Madichal near Kaliiyakkavilai in Kanyakumari District.

Take for example, traditional Visha Vaidya Thiru. Kolappan. Now his age is 81, his experience spans six decades. His son K.Suresh Kumar (age 39) has now an experience of 20 years. Both are rendering service to the community through their K.S.K. Siddha Visha Vaidya Salai near Madichal. Healer Kolappan’s whole generation is doing Visha Vaidya healing for more than 200 years. Per month he is treating an average of 10 – 15 cases. He is treating a range of poisonous bites: the Aranai bite, Cobra bite, Analai bite, Rat bite, Scorpion bite etc. and also non poisonous snake bite and Cat bite etc. But he is not giving treatment for poisonous materials intake.

How does he identify the bite?

He differentiates two kinds of bite. One is Erai (food) bite; that is usually snake biting others during its search for food. In this type of bite, even poisonus snake bite is not harmful. The second type is the Visha Kadi or poisonous bite. This is very dangerous. And this in turn has has 4 types from One teeth bite to Four teeth bite. Of these the four-teeth bite is the most dangerous. This four-teeth bite is almost non-curable.

What are the vital indicators in treating a poisonous bite? The place and time of bite, oozing of bleeding, muscles involvement and the nature of pain: all these play vital role in the identification of the nature of bite.

How does he select the patient for treatment?

Once the patient comes, the Vaidhya cleans the place of bite in the body. Then he examines the patient for the following:

whether his eye has changed into white,

whether there is leakage or output of body fluids like semen,

nature of bleeding,

site of bite

time of bite.

He restrains from treating if the bite is at:

ankle joint and

above the neck.

He checks what he calls AMIRTHA nilai (which is in traditional knowledge system considered as a prime body holistic vital ebergy flow in the body )condition. If the bite is above the Amirtha nilai point place, then he restrainst from treatment, as the bite has been fatal already. Here the explanation of the selection of patient has parallels with Varma treatment.

Methods of Treatment:

Clean the bite spot in the body with hydrogen peroxide (but we suggested alum water).

If the patient is unconscious, then he/she is given immediately “Saramaari thylam”(a herbo mineral metalic living material medicated oil). The quantity is 15 to 20 ml. If the patient is conscious then he is giving Vizha Kudineer (prepared herbal decoction – Andrographis, dried Zinger, Pepper, Indigo, Sweetwood, etc.are main ingredient).

After giving this herbal formulation, the healer uses Vizha Kal (A kind of herbo-mineral medicine stone like substance) on the affected place. This formulation get applied (by pressing) for a minimum of 15 minutes to 1.30 hrs at the bite place. During that time the rubbing of the stone generates a Heat. So thehealer repeatedly changes his finger. If the venom is inside the body, the stone will stick on the place; if not it will drop. After the application is over, the physician takens the stone and puts it into the milk. The milk changes its colour to blue.

Then again the patient is given the Vizha Kudineer.

If the patient still in the dangerous stage, the healer uses Uyiralathy Kulikai ( a pill prepared from herbo-mineral and living materials). This is given one to three times, depending upon the situation, along with the above said Vizha Kudineer or Indigo leaves juice.

In between the above the course of treatment the physician also chants the mantras repeatedly. As per his experience, he considers the mantras to have an significant healing effect.

Advise to the patient:

The healer advises the patient to intake only satwic food. The patient is also advised to avoide sleep for the next 24 hrs to 36 hrs. For the next one or two days the healer keeps the patient under observation and advises the patient to take Vizha Kudineer for 3 days. Now he advises non-vegetarian food: particularly chicken. The healer avoids completely the conventional first aid treatments for the poisonous bites. His charges are usually a minimum of Rs.300- 700/ and in rare cases upto Rs.2,000/-.

Textual knowledge source:

He is following “Vizha naraneeyam” a Vizha Vaidya book more than 20 years back, but now he is following “Malanguravan Vazhi” – a Vizha Vaidya literature in Malayalam. He is also often refers Karuida panchatram, Agasthiiyar Vizha Vaidya nool. During our interaction he stressed the importance of Prana and Amirtha nilai pulli (traditionally considered as a point of body’s holistic Vital energy). He shared the experiences of how he encountered and cured some of the challengable poisonous bite cases and how he arrived at the treatment and some medicines preparation also. He shared the experiences of his father and father-in-law who were also healers.

He also gives treatment to chronic poisonous bite oedematous ulcer and skin diseases. He is now very much worried about his current and future practise having become endangered. He attributes this to lack of awareness and neglect by Govt policy. We expressed our gratitude for his heart to heart interaction and appreciated the challeneges he faces in practicing this life saving healing system even during the changing times. We collected the sample medicines and documented the interaction in the form of video as well as through the prepared performa.

AITSE Award for VKV Roing student

Ahhie Mega (11), a sixth grader at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya School in Roing, is the winner of the All India Talent Search Examination (AITSE) conducted by National Teachers Council at Bangalore.

She will receive her prize in Bangalore in an award giving ceremony to be held in September next. The award includes a cash prize and a laptop.

Ahhie is one of the top winners from the entire Northeast in her sixth grade, along with five other winners.

The test is conducted at pre-primary level to senior level. The Talent Search Examination consists of Mental Ability Test and Scholastic Ability Test.

“Her hard work and motivation given by the teachers paid”, said Anil Kumar, Principal VKV. “Children generally don’t take these tests seriously, but she took it seriously.”

Ahhies's dad, Dr Oken Megha himself is recipient of National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) scholarship, J C Bose Award and winner of National Science Exhibition in his school days.

RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME REPORT - NOV-DEC 2010

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Namaskar.

The report for the activities, conducted by VKRDP, during the month of NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER 2010 is detailed below, for your kind information:

1. Through 75 Balwadis, 2,050 rural Children were nurtured. In the Balwadis, Malt, Hygienically prepared highly nutritive lunch were served, with vegetables, and evening, vitamin rich cereals were provided to the children.

2. In Medicare Programme, 4,737 patients were examined and treated for various common ailments, through 15 Rural Medical Centres.

3. In 227 Samskara Vargas, 7,545 students participated. The students were taught about the values of Indian Culture, through games and lessons. The feelings of oneness are strengthened among participants, through patriotic songs and games.

4. Under Sponsor A Grand Parent Programme, 25 destitutes - old people were provided with monthly solatiums, in the form of rice, dhal, oil, etc., for their livelihood and 44 persons provided rice only.

5. With the assistance of Aravind Eye Hospital, Tirunelveli Free Eye Screening Camps were organised at seven places. 1,086 patients were screened and 252 were operated for cataract.
Medicines and Spectacles were supplied to the needy patients.

6. Village level Deepa Poojas were organised in 272 temples with 19,726 women participants, who offered their prayers to God for the welfare of all people. 1008 deepa poojas was organized at Tenkasi in Tirunelveli District and Thoothukudi in Thoothukudi district, 1658 sisters participated from 50 villages.

7. Vivekananda Kendra workers and volunteers have collected 2,448 Kgs. of rice, from the people of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar Districts, under Amrita Surabhi Scheme.

8. Through various branch centres and Book stalls, Rs.92,028/- worth of literature books were sold.

9. Subscriptions for 282 Vivekavani, 2 Yuva Bharati, 2 Arunachal Pant Parivar and 2 Patrons were registered.

10. 80 women being benefited in 4 Self Help Groups in Kanyakumari district.

11. Swadhyaya Varga was organised in Paramakudi and Aruppukottai in which 39 persons participated.

12. Yoga Varga is being conducted in three places in Kovilpatti, Ramnad and Aruppukottai and 63 persons attended.

13. Four Tailoring units are functioning in Kanyakumari & Tirunelveli districts and total attendance is 69.

14. Shivalinga Poojas were conducted at two places in Kanyakumari District and 106 members participated.

15. Durga Pooja was conducted in Peyankuzhy and North Peyankuzhy at Kanyakumari District and 98 sister participated.

16. Chanting of Sri Rama Jaya Rama Mantra was held during Deepa Pooja, Shivalinga Pooja and also daily by Balwadi School Children, Cultural Class Students and during Monthly Meetings by Balwadi Teachers and Social Workers. Every month nearly 3,67,465 times mantras were chanted in 135 localities.

17. Swami Vivekanandar picture was pasted 420 houses from 4 villages of Virudhunagar District.

18. Religious Conference was organized at Sivagiri (Thoothukudi), Andarkulam in Kanyakumari District and Valliyoor in Tirunelveli district on 28.10.2010, 05.12.2010 and 25.12.2010, 189 students from 26 cultural classes participated.

19. Parents meetings were conducted in 4 balwadi places. 76 parents participated.

20. Mananeeya Eknathji Jayanthi were celebrated at 65 places in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramnad and Virudhunagar Districts and 2,740 persons participated.

22. Swami Vivekanandar Vizha was celebrated on 4.11.2010 at Kallaveerianvilai in
Kanyakumari District 250 people participated.

23. On 05.12.2010, Anna Pooja and Children’s Carnival was celebrated in Kovilpatti Devi Sri Gayathri Mandapam. 2,800 Kgs. rice was collected from 10 village people. On that day Kovilpatti, Nagalapuram and the surroundings Kendra Balwadi children’s and Samskara Varga students were participated and they performed the cultural programmes. And also one Anna Pooja was celebrated in Paramakudi, 5,900 Kgs. Rice were collected. 190 persons were attended this function.

24. Two Personality development camp was organized at Valliyoor Vivekananda Kendra Vidhyalaya and Mahatma Gandhi Matriculation School, Ilanji. 300 students were attended this camp.

25. Urban Children’s Carnival was conducted at Kanyakumari from 13.11.2010 to 14.11.2010, 49 students from 36 schools and 65 parents and two teachers were participated this camp. Kendra’s senior karyakarta Shri Angiras (Mamaji) was presided over the function and to distribute prizes and Certificates to the winners.

26. Every month we are distributing the rice which is collected through Amrit Surabhi and Anna pooja to Balwadi children, old poor people and also the following institutions, educational institutions etc., as follows.

INSPIRING INCIDENTS

(from our balwadi teachers & workers)

1. C. LEELA, PEYANKUZHI, KANYAKUMARI DISTRICT ::

In each of our crèches there are babies in the cradles. Our ayah used to sing lullabies to the crying children. Other big and small children used to watch this. One of our student Shivani was asked by her mother to look after her sleeping brother in the cradle. The mother had asked her to sway the cradle of the baby cries. Once the baby got wake up he started to cry. Shivani started to sway the cradle with the song, “Kannan Engal Kannanam” which she learnt it at the crèche while the ayah was singing for the crying babies. Shivani’s father came back from the office at that time and heard her singing, felt very happy at her quick response to her brother’s crying. He asked her who taught her the song and praised her for her sweet voice. He immediately proclaimed that after hearing this religious lullaby they will not listen to cinema songs. The parents came for the parents meeting and narrated this incident in front of all the parents. All were very pleased.

2. C. JAYANTHI, PUTHALAM, KANYAKUMARI DISTRICT ::

One day one student left the eating place in a hurry without washing his plate well. Suguna came next and washed her plate and kept it in the rack saw that previous boy did not wash it clean so took his plate and washed it very well. I was touched by her action which was done without being told by others.

3. Mrs. RENUKABAI, KALINGARAJAPURAM, KANYAKUMARI DISTRICT: ::

One person came to admit his child for the coming year. I asked him to come on June 1st with his child and then I asked his whereabouts. When he said the name of the place, immediately I told him it is a faraway place and how he is going to bring the child. Immediately he said this was what I told my wife and asked to get admission from the nearby V.E.R.S. Matric school. But my wife told me that she wanted her child to have a year at least at Vivekananda Kendra Balwadi because she studied as a child in the same school with the same teacher at least for a year she wants her child to attend this school. The teachers here treat the children very kind and they teach them with full attention. So my wife requested that we should bring the child here in whatever way we can, so they both agree to bring the child here anyhow. This incident touched my heart because the mother’s anxiety for her child to get the same love and culture from Kendra school. I felt like applauding Vinitha the mother for her forethought.

4. C. SASIKALA, P. RAJESWARI – PUDUGRAMAM, TIRUNELVELI DISTRICT ::

At Pudugramam crèche, there were holes, hollows and unleveled floor. We asked one of our old student, brother Saravana kumar to help us to level the floor. He was one of our kind, helpful and pious devotee of Kendra. He gave us cement and sand immediately. Since he could not spare the time we asked one of our old student, N. Suresh to level the floor. Without any hesitation, he took a day off from his work and leveled our floor in the proper way. Not only have that he also did a good job in our front yard of the school where water was stagnant always. Their help was very useful and made us happy.

5. Ms. MARAGATHAM, KOOTTAMPULI, THOOTHUKUDI DISTRICT ::

Near our crèche there is a one and half year child named, Kasthuri. Her parents told us that we will leave her at your crèche next year. But as we start our morning prayer she will open her home door and will enter our school and will sit on the bench and will start to sing. Her parents told us that without their knowledge, when she hears our prayer Kasthuri will start saying ‘OM, OM’ and run to the school. She was so attracted by the music. This touched my heart.

A Varma workshop for Siddha physicians and students held at Vivekananda Kendra, Azolla training, a 100 Cubic meter bio-methanation plant constructed at PSG college Coimbatore and many other interesting events that happened last month at VK-nardep are presented for your view.

It is called Indian Jinseng. It is a herbal plant that has a great market potential. Its Sanskrit name is Aswagandha and Tamil name is Amukkra. Its botanicalname is Vitania sominifera. How to cultivate it in your own backyard as both a cash crop and also a medical herb for home use? Vk-nardep has published a book on this herbal plant as part of its efforts to conserve the indigenous medical knowledge. This newsletter gives a review of that book.

विजय ही विजय युवा शिविर : पटना केन्द्र

विवेकानंदा केंद्र कन्याकुमारी की शाखा पटना द्वारा विजय ही विजय युवा अभियान के अंतर्गत युवाओं को दिशा देने की दृष्टि से पुस्तक आधारित प्रतियोगिता ली गयी जो इस युवा अभियान का प्रथम चरण था ,जिसमे पटना के ७ महाविदालयों के १०५ प्रतिभागीओं ने भाग लिया |

इसमें से चयनित ६० युवाओं ने दुसरे चरण में एक दिवसीय कार्यशाला में भाग लिया| दुसरे चरण के चयनित युवाओं का तीन दिन का आवासीय शिविर पटना में दिनांक ३ फ़रवरी से ५ फ़रवरी २०११ तक आयोजित किया गया | जिसमे ३० की अपेक्षित संख्या में से १८ युवाओं ने भाग लिया | जिसमे १३ कार्यकर्ताओं के साथ १५ भाई तथा ३ बहने शिविरार्थी रही | शिविरार्थियो को ३ गणों में बांटा गया जिनके नाम क्रमशः अशोक, चन्द्रगुप्त, कुवंर सिंह, जो बिहार के गौरवसाली इतिहास के प्रतिनिधि है, के नाम पर रखे गए | शिबिर २.२.२०११ को सायं ५ बजे से प्रारंभ कर ५.२.२०११ २.३० बजे संपन्न हुआ |

शिबिर का उदघाटन ३.२.२०११ को सुबह १० बजे मेजर जनरल के.एन .सिंह के द्वारा दीप प्रजवलन कर किया गया | दीप प्रज्वलन के बाद उन्होंने शिविराथियो को अपने अनुभव बताये |

शिबिर की दिनचर्या सुबह ४.३० बजे जागरण से लेकर रत १० बजे तक रही | शिबिर में सुबह प्रातः स्मरण ,शारीरिक ,गीता पठन के साथ परीक्षा को लेकर आज के युवाओं की मानसिकता को देखते हुए परीक्षा दे हँसते-हँसते कार्यशाला के माध्यम से तनाव रहित परीक्षा कैसे दी जाय, इस विषय पर शिविराथियो का मार्गदर्शन किया गया | श्रमानुभाव , श्रमपरिहार के बाद , गौरवसाली इतिहास ,योद्धा सन्यासी विवेकानंदा, वर्त्तमान चुनोतियाँ ,संघटनात्मक कार्य की आवश्यकता आदि विषयों पर प्रत्येक दिवस दो सत्रों के माध्यम से विषयों के ज्ञाताओं के द्वारा शिबिरार्थ्यों का मार्गदर्शन कराया गया |

बौद्धिक योद्धा तथा वर्त्तमान चुनोतियो का निदान विषयों पर मंथन कराया गया तथा उसके प्रस्तुति के लिया प्रत्येक गाना को समय दिया जाता था |दुसरे सत्र के पश्चात खेल,गीत ,कहानी ,भजन संध्या के बाद प्रेरणा से पुनरुथान में दोनों दिवस चाणक्य तहत वीर सर्वरकर की विडिओ क्लिप दखाने के बाद कुंवर सिंह तहत मंडन मिश्र के जीवन के कुछ प्रसंग शिबिरार्थियों के सामने रखे गए | अंतिम दिवस आहुति सत्र लिया गया जिसमे अधिक से अधिक समयदान तथा श्रमदान के लिए आवाहन किया गया ,लिए हुए संकल्प को भारतमाता के चरणों में फूल द्वारा अर्पित करके सभी ने उसे पूर्ण करने का आशीर्वाद लिया |समापन सत्र में निर्मल श्रीवास्तव के मुख्य अथित्ये में संपन हुआ |

Free Operation Camp, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh

The Free Operation Camp organized by Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti in collaboration with Remote Area Medical Corp., U.S.A. and District Administration, East Siang concluded successfully on 12th Feb’11 at Pasighat General Hospital, Pasighat. Within these six days the team successfully operated 50 patients. 22 cholecysectomies, 8 appendectomies, 9 hernia repairs, 6 lumps&cysts, 4 hysterectomies and 1 D&C were done in the camp.

62 patients were done there Video Endoscopies free of cost. Out of them 57 were Gastroscopies, 4 were Colonoscopies and 1 was Sigmoidoscopy. One NRI medicine specialist did general check-up and 132 patients availed the facility. The Gynecologist from abroad also checked-up 43 female patients.

Patients from East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Upper Subansiri, Anjaw and Tirap attended the camp and got the benefit. Even people from remote areas like Tuting, Menchukha and Taliha registered their names and were operated.

All the staff and Doctors of General Hospital Pasighat were very supportive throughout the camp and were totally involved. The NRI team were very happy and inspired and wish to visit this place again for this kind of humanitarian service.
